I have been browsing this thread for the past couple of days and finally decided to post my thoughts and ideas on the subject. I have been a player of Runescape since late ‘04/early ’05, and have been a player of WoW since late ’07. Why include WoW? Easy, it’s the single most relatable idea to Runescape now. I have played off-and-on, flip-flopping between WoW and Runescape over those many years. I can tell you that the similarity begins and abruptly ends at the introduction of abilities. Even then, the abilities only remotely resemble anything relating to WoW. Runescape has a unique system in place that no other game I’ve played/seen has, and that is the individual skills.
Sure, WoW has mining, smithing, enchanting and the like, but it is radically different from Runescape. WoW and many major MMO’s have a base xp bar and a set character level. In Runescape, you have to level individual stats to craft your own unique character within this universe. As far as combat goes, you have to level individual stats in Runescape which made it more personal without having to resort to “classes”. Also, Runescape usually takes years of dedication to achieve a high level, where WoW is a little more fast-paced.
But that’s not my focus. My focus is on how Runescape can adapt to change without having to do something drastic. I also apologize if this post takes up a ton of room.

We all love Runescape regardless of what we may say to the contrary. It’s been a major part of many lives including mine. For some it was the first multiplayer game they played, for others it was the single best way to talk to friends while having fun. Now I will get down to my main points and how Runescape may adapt and rise to be a better game than ever before. I highly doubt anyone wants the game to just die off forever.
