Micro transactions such as the Sof and SGS are not as bad as many players make them out to be. Yes, they may be a little bit annoying, but quite frankly, it is an understandable and reasonable addition to the game that benefits both the player and the company. So honestly, Micro transactions have the potential to be a win-win feature with minimal impact to the game play itself.
EOC is another topic of interest that has generated a lot of mixed feelings in the community. Some players have adjusted to it and the rest of them either have:
1. Refused to adjust to it, therefore causing:
A. members to quit the game, period.
B. cancelled memberships
C. unhappy people
D-Z. The rest of the unfortunate outcomes
Players that are not satisfied are most likely not going to attempt to "recruit their friends" either and from the percentage of them that do come and experience the game play, most may not even stick around to play because they know that their are other games that are more graphically advanced and utilize a combat system of a similar nature.
The combat system in Runescape, before it was changed, was very unique in a way that it did not really compare with other games therefore attracting a community of players that are dedicated only to this style of game play.
After playing Runescape for such a while now and experiencing mostly all aspects of the game play, the best part of it for me was when this game was:
SIMPLE and FUN.
