As a long-term player of the Runescape communtiy, I have seen people come and go, updates good and bad.

2012 appears to be the "darker" year for Runescape, due to facing a lot of updates a large number of players weren't too happy with. Personally, I was not and I am still not a fan of buying spins due to the "buying GP/XP" concept. Even if you rarely get a lot, it is still there.

Because of these updates, lack of information from the top jmods in charge and promises broken, I admit I did loose a little respect for the leaders of Runescape.

However, Mark, your post did explain things I mostly already was aware about, but seeing it's you writing and saying you know how parts of the community feel, and that you do spend some time on the game on your own account, you gained me back and gave me a reason to back up my opinion on 2013 being a good year for the game.

No matter how Runescape will turn out, I will always be following along the way.

Very excited for the new year and the possibilites that will open. I am very glad you, as the "big boss", can admit your mistakes and apologize to the community that feels affected.

Thanks! See you all in-game. :)

Edit: Adding a question in here.

Will we ever see an option for low-level players such as combat 4 skillers to reset their combat level if they should happen to accidently level up?
An idea I had with a friend, was to add limited XP-reducing lamps for levels under 8 to Solomon or Loyalty shop.
There are no noobs, just players worse than me.

Hey, great post!

1. You have mentioned Botwatch, I do agree it is one of the best anti-bot software I have seen since once the Botwatch hits an area, all bots are eradicated! Dungeoneering and LRC are the most recent Botwatch success I have heard of :)

Since Botwatch focuses on specific locations, is there a possible date when BotWatch finally covers all of Runescape?

2. Gambling. We know there is a fix and an addition to safe gambling coming soon. Could you shed any more light on this?

3. Runefest! You have confirmed Runefest to be in works for 2013. All I suggest is to have it during Summer so I don't worry about my classes!

Dear MMG

I'd dearly like to know just one thing. Will you be snarkly offering "tissues" ever again to players who complain to you about anything having to do with the game?

It was completely unprofessional and pretty much a slap in the face of those very same players whom you claim to be so grateful to for still playing and supporting this game.

No one likes to be ridiculed or belittled, especially when you are paying to play a game. You'd do well to remember that players continue to be dissatisfied and leave the game. Some may return but with the plethora of games out there, many will not.

As for the bots, please. We're not idiots. Stop patting yourselves on the back for the few bots you do manage to ban and actually go into the game and take a look at Grotworms, any and all Dragons, Sorceress' Garden and countless other game areas where bots are thriving. They're not hard to spot. They're all wearing identical gear, follow identical paths to and from their programmed training areas and need to be dealt with. Now.

Nice to hear that you intend to be more responsive to our feedback and complaints, but you'll forgive me if I refrain from holding my breath until I actually see it. Nearly every single time a major update or snafu has been introduced to the game, we've voiced our opinions only to have F-Mods lock or hide threads without a single J-Mod response to them.

All the pretty videos you create are just dandy but we need proper communication too when there are problems that seem to go unheeded and unfixed for days, sometimes weeks, at a time -- without an official word from anyone at Jagex. F-Mods aside, they are not official spokespersons for the game.

For now, let's hope that you mean what you say. I'm sure several of us have saved copies, just in case you decide to "alter" this statement at some point in the future. Plausible deniability and all that.

This post is giving me a lot more insight of the intentions behind all the updates.
I really like the eoc since I can finally defeat maxed people sometimes !
the only 2 thing wich i think MUST be fixed and surely will be:

1. the (%^$#) botters!
2. the crashing of nearly all important items in the game such as armour sets and resources like the pure essence.

overall, keep up the great work! :D
may all of the bots finally die one day. :@

I'm glad that this news post was less about PR and propoganda, and more about responsibility and accountability to players, especially paying members. A couple of quotes I'd like to address are as follows:

"We intend to do more dev blogs and live Q&As to clearly set out the issues facing us and then get your feedback directly."

More dev blogs are a great idea, because it essentially opens up the player base to alpha testing content, thinking of ways that it may get broken on release, and thinking of other ways it could be improved or made better.

The flipside of this is the live Q&As, which is great if you live in the UK and perhaps the US, but not for other parts of the world like Australia. It would also help to be more selective in addressing the most critical or pressing issues from the players' perspective.

Furthermore, censoring players on social networking sites like Facebook only causes more issues. At a time where openness and transparency was being supposedly introduced, my comments regarding the unready state of the EoC combat beta were hidden from view and blocked. If my remarks that players should speak up to support my viewpoint were adhered to, and you listened to those players, you might not have the mess on your hands that you do now.

"Two months in, we’re glad to see you mastering the combat system and enjoying its exciting improvements"

Following on from the above, the current combat system is a joke. Today I solo'd K'ril Tsutsaroth 18 times in ganodermic armour without banking. Meanwhile, strykewyrms and other slayer assignments can hardly be hit. Equipment stats are all over the place too. Fire capes > TokHaar capes, quest capes are trash, Nex boots and gloves severely underpowered just to name a few. TokHaar creatures are possibly the most overpowered of all, such that obsidian armour, if obtained very slowly, doesn't even last throughout the whole Fight Kiln.

I sincerely hope that the vision for improving RS for the better is realised.

Now just to see if it actually goes as planned. However

"We do know for a fact there are far fewer players botting now in game than there were back in 2011."

I wouldn't go that far. In 2011, when a friend asked me how to train something, (mainly combat) at low levels, I wasn't stumped because I know whatever I sent them to would be swarming with bots (not to mention EoC cancelling a lot of my training spots when I was a low level). If anything I'd say the bot number has multiplied by a large amount, at least from what I remember. However that being said I've seen botany bay become more active overtime as it's been in game longer. Granted the only two places I ever see it active are the Grand Exchange website bots, and the wierd spot in Lumby bots tend to get stuck in (seriously, I'm kind of curious why/how the bots get stuck there or what they're doing).

But anyways, I'd love to see all of this come into the game, here's to hoping! :D
