"Also, we've put the money we've earned from these back into RuneScape technology and infrastructure,"

Yes but how many man hours are now used up in making more updates for SoF and SGS. All well and good having more people working on the game but does every new event have to have a frankly poor SGS tag on?

As for bots we all know that as far as Jagex are concerned, Bots Pay - Bots Stay

As for 2013 I will judge Jagex by their 'actions' and not yet another page of doggerel and oh so lofty promises.

The fact you think the real old runescape was a mistake is a shame, especially considering the fact it was that mistake that gained you the following of loyal players that got you to where you are now... Albert einsteins statement remains very true but the biggest mistake was changing to the EOC and it is you that have to own up to that whether you judge it on players feedback, or by the ammount of subscribed members you have now, or even the average ammount of players you have online now compared to before the EOC.

Ever since 2008 this game slowly started changing for the worse bringing updates out to be able to satisfy the greed of players who wanted you to maintain regular updates. Unfortunatly you did just that but lost the brilliance on which this game was based.

After watching videos of private servers that run no the 2006 version of runescape i was tempted to play the game i loved so much but soon realised that not even a copy such as a private server could match the REAL Runescape. It was simple yet uncomprehendably brilliant and it is sad to say i will never be playing this game again after over a years magnicifant game time. Thank you for the brilliant game i started playing and shame on you for ruining the game which i and so many enjoyed so much.

Thanks for the words MMG.

I've been a Scaper for over 10 years now and all I have to say is I am amazed with how far this game has come. We have gone from a small realm to something massive, from 2d to full 3D HD graphics. I have watched this game grow so much and though not every update is something I agree with, I still love it through it all.

The SoF and SGS are some updates I am not so fond of in it's entirety, but I have to say it is something that has helped the game progress. We don't see it, but the funds and profits from them is what is helping this game more forward. I know many of you disagree with their existence in general, but Jagex has expanded as a whole from it. The company has grown and the updates which were once unreachable before due to lack of resources are now within possibility.

The SGS and SoF are also optional. You don't have to do it. Anyone who does put their money to that has made the decision to do so. I know this is a common comment, but it is true. Also, all money they do spend on them is only going to wards the game itself for further advancement.

As for EoC, I know I will get hate for this, but I love it. It is an update the game needed. The old combat system will be missed, yes, but I can see so many amazing things coming from this new one! I personally love how interactive combat is now! Using a variety of abilities to your advantage to take down a foe with skill and not just purely random chance. That is pretty cool!

I can't wait to see what 2013 holds. Everyone who has quit should really look back and try again. It may be annoying or tough to get used to this new system , but I can assure you the payoff will be worth it!

Don't throw away the possibility to have more memories in this amazing game just because of the combat rework. There are so many more adventures to be had! Gear up, dive in and lets have another amazing year here in Runescape.

@MMG, and Mod mark.

I've been playing Runescape for about 12 years now (mid 2001 I started). My question is quite simple but requires a lengthy answer.

What is the reasoning and logic behind denying us "your ex and current veterans/players", a legacy server in which players can vote the year of? IF your true resolution is to make this "our" year, should you not at least consider the possibility since a good portion of your community requests such?

Also, although I doubt my question will be responded to or looked at; why is it that you (mmg and mod mark) believe that those who liked the older versions of RS think its about nostalgia? It truly is not. The essence of Runescape is what players miss. Back then, no matter how drastic a update was (construction, constitution, RS2, clanwars, pvp worlds) the games essence still felt the same. We as players felt as if runescape is still the same game...

Change is a good thing, but too much change is not. And although, the first refutation to what I stated above about a legacy server/worlds would be to look at the failure of classic, the numbers were FAR different.

If you truly wish to make this OUR year, then adress those issues, take a poll, let the community voice/debate on it. And let us decide for once.

Thank you for reading (assuming you did and did not skip over it :P )

''As for bots we all know that as far as Jagex are concerned, Bots Pay - Bots Stay''

bots pay - Bots get money back because they use stolen CC
Bots pay - Bots get money back claiming their own CC as stolen
Bots pay - making others quit
Bots pay - Entire team, equipment, memory ect. needed

Some of you really need to stop thinking so easy over everything. It's not so one sided and easy.

A very nice article to read, and it was quite humbling. I admire your willingness to accept when you may have gone wrong or done things not the best. I still have faith in your company, even if others have lost it.

Overall, I thought 2012 was a great year (Except for removing Random Events and the micro-payments, but we will get there in a bit). I'm loving PoP's and greatly enjoying the EoC, but I would like to make a request.

On the topic of micro-payments, I'm no stranger to how a business works (Both my parents come from corporate-jobs, and i've studied business and economics on various levels) and I know that a company needs money to function, but I believe there could have been better and less controversial ways in which it could it have been done. I hope for the future you look into other alternative methods for funding so SoF and Solomon promotions indeed become less common or altogether halted. With a little digging, I'm certain there is something of value to be used.

Thanks for the article,
