Who would have guessed that after years of suppressing other opinions and driving people away the few still around would be defending these people. Let's circle back around to that term, echo chamber.

As anyone involved in marketing knows, people with a gripe (however unjustified) are always far more vocal than those who are perfectly happy.

I do not believe that Forum Moderators are to blame, as OP suggests. Yea, just like Applejuiceaj mentioned, there have been instances where misunderstandings and mistakes have occurred, but they are human beings after all. I'm sure that if they were moderating on their own and not following the guidelines, I can guarantee you that they would have gotten rid of some of the famous trolls out there. Sadly, we never did because they were following the guidelines.

Also, in prior times, you couldn't even say Google without getting banned. That's how far we have gotten. The rules were and have been so relaxed that it has opened the way for famous trolls to reign without immediate consequences. If Forum Moderators had their way, I'm sure they would have acted in the good faith for the community regarding the pestering trolls; however, they have guidelines to follow and thus those lovely trolls continued to be a menace.

Regardless of anything, Forum Moderators devoted their free time to the RuneScape Official Forums throughout their tenure here. I believe Tren and Tuffty are/were the longest serving Forum Moderators for almost 20 years or so. So for that, thanks for their dedication and service to the RuneScape community as a whole.

Edit: I forgot to state that most loyal members of this community would be content knowing that we will not see those pesky trolls ever again...at the expense of losing the Forums as a whole, but yea. "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." RIP, RSOFs <3.

I guess some people simply haven't learned that freedom of speech does not equal freedom of repercussion.

Rules and laws exist for a reason. Just because you can get away with saying stuff elsewhere on the internet doesn't mean you're not breaking real life laws.

I'm not here to assume anyone has broken any laws by the way. It's more a warning to be heeded than an accusation.

Someone took issue with you saying that because you were being transphobic. I don't exactly trust you to be honest about being the victim in this situation.

Posting the guidelines would just be showing the history of forum rules and what breaking them would do. If people lose their minds and break rules over being shown what the rules are, that's completely on them.

How dare people in charge of maintaining the forums maintain the forums until they're set to read only. Just because the forums are shutting down doesn't mean the rules don't matter anymore. Moving threads just means they're in the wrong section. Rants going to rants isn't some personal attack.

The IQ thing isn't valid since you're just insulting someone and calling them stupid, which is why it's considered flaming. Most places don't tolerate treating other people that way because it's detrimental to holding civil discussion.


To the thread in general, past issues with the forums =/= current issues with the forums. At the end of the day, it's Jagex's neglect and trolls going unpunished that ruined the forums for a lot of people. Any over moderation that took place here was a long time ago and no longer reflective of what the forums currently are. How to block a forum user
