Thank you for posting this thread. I was a little worried I wouldn't get to see a couple of my favorite Fmods in action again.

Yeahhh......the RSOF is fine, it used to be strict. I remember the days when simply saying Facebook or another MMORPG would get you a ban (which was a Jagex policy). The fmods simply do their job. There very much used to be a few Fmods who abused their power...but they've either been de-modded or quit long before I returned here.

You won't find the freedoms we have here on any of those alternatives. I speak as an OG Rants troll, generic internet troll, and someone with many unpopular opinions in just about any topic you can name. If the active fmods here were remotely abusive I'd be long-gone.

The greatest irony in your thread is that the active Fmods we have now are why the forums are still active. If not for the ones who are here with us now and until the end the forums would have likely been closed years ago and without the dismay being expressed the past week.

the reason forums is closing, is because of stupidity like this thread.

fmods had guidelines to follow (thats been said) which were set by jagex. i dont know how or why people seem to think fmods run everything.

but op is literally annoyed that threads are getting moved to relevant places. the irony in this thread and op is beyond measure

A simple google search will show you that a lot more people have disliked how these forums have been moderated throughout the years.

https://www.google.com/search?q=runescape+forum+moderation+site:www.reddit.com&sca_esv=f9536568f210c1d3&sca_upv=1&sxsrf=ACQVn08k-X3slTna-hIh0NAMXCNV71qJvw:1705949370100&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwicoNbR1PGDAxXNibAFHYyOABoQrQIoBHoECBUQBQ&biw=1278&bih=1311&dpr=1

Some of those were a good read, thanks for sharing. :) I'm pretty sure I had read most of them around the time they had been posted, but with the closing of the forums coming up, a blast from the past can be fun too.

That first topic is particularly interesting because it points to the title of this thread being false. Allow me to elaborate:

One part of that topic read:
"You cannot even call out someone who is going out of their way to derail your thread as the mod sides with the troll every single time and shows it by deleting your posts while leaving the posts of the troll.

I get some moderation is necessary to prevent anarchy, but you really need to tone it down."

First things first, most of the time those 'calling out' posts often aren't the most polite, and are flaming. And as was touched on earlier in this thread, flaming doesn't really go well on any platform.

But there's more to it - while understandably it looks like an FMod might be siding with a troll, is 'being annoying' a forum rule? With today's rules as written (which were the rules when that topic was posted), the answer is no. Most could agree that certain players that seem to be everywhere you look on every topic, but their posts on their own, while not always the most constructive, weren't necessarily breaking rules either.

With the above in mind, if an FMod opted to issue a mute for "being annoying" it probably wouldn't hold.

That doesn't mean that nothing was done, though. As a team we were well aware of the concern with these 'annoying players' and we did what we could to make the current forum curator, whoever that may be, aware (easier said than done sometimes). And with that in mind, there were times that things were done to curb that annoyance factor. That relied on us having an active curator though, something that couldn't always be taken for granted. There hasn't been a proper forum curator in some time now.

So with all of the above said, back to the title of that Reddit topic, "Reduce the excessive moderation of Runescape forums", I'd argue that the real thing was that the moderation that they wanted to see wasn't what was happening, which would be the removal of the annoying player. If the moderation that they wanted to see was to happen, it would require a policy change - which required a forum curator to intervene that didn't exist.

FMods don't make policy change - that resides with gold. Are FMods really the reason for the decline of the forums? Certainly doesn't seem like it with that in mind. :)

I've always been against "player moderation" no "player" should ever be given the authority to censor another person moreover a "paying subscriber"!!

As equitably and ethically speaking all forms censorship are entirely paramount to absolute fascism no two ways about it !

the secondary issue is also overly simple. if something one person says freely speaking their mind and expressing themselves "offends" you!

then you as an individual should elect to block /ignore that individual personally!!!!

I personally constantly use the block ignore feature for person's attempting to bring vulgar and deviant sexual perversion into runescape or for people attempting to run scams or con games

I'm fully aware there are limited paid "jagex" personnel to oversee the massive amount of the "player base" both for paying subscribers /members as well as "free"

people/players should be able to express themselves within context without any fear of reprisal
If something I happen to say offends you, then block/Ignore me it's pretty straightforward!
Refusing to accept perversion and sexual garbage
IS NOT BIGOTRY there's no place for it in RUNESCAPE!!
!!!NO MEANS NO!!!

as stated i'm personally for the utter removal of ALL "player moderation" period in the forums as well as in game , it was a massive mistake since its inception and multiple people have overly abused that small modicum of "authority" and went on massive "ego/power trips"

i've sat back on the sidelines and watched this absurd garbage for the past 20 years

ngl i've even experienced a few "ingame" mutes for telling off the trolls and reprobates which has been taken out of context!

thx to some "mod" playing fast and loose or plying "favoritism" which is by no means remotely ethical I miss the days of the built in "chat filter" which was NOT electively toggleable where cetin words could not even be uttered by the hooligans in chat

now in 2024 thx to a few people violating asinine rules we cant even copy paste into the clients chat box

or even properly direct people to clan discords simply because it has a ".com"
If something I happen to say offends you, then block/Ignore me it's pretty straightforward!

This thread is about the shitty job fmods have done over the years and the direct involvement they had in killing the RSOF.

You people live in an alternate reality. All the top comments are about the moderation.
