I don't even give a crap if this gets locked, I'm getting my anger out now (not that Jagex is even reading these at this point).
I haven't been playing RS nearly as much as I used to. I used to play 4-5+ hours a day. I used to be excited to log in and do whatever. I used to be passionate about the community and about Jagex, even wanting to work for you at one point. I had a bit of notoriety for being a bit of a fanboy at times, admittedly.
However, over the past decade, you've changed in the worst possible ways. Your corporate owners, atrocious upper management and an ongoing string of bad decisions has culminated in the past three years which have been the worst this game has ever seen. Sure, sure, you have all these big updates and business successes, but where is the SOUL of RuneScape?
Over these past couple years, y'all have done a splendid job of decimating everything about this game which made it special. From pushing crap like Necromancy as a skill (something frowned upon in the lore) to pronouns in quests, to now shuttering the forums, this company has destroyed everything. You only know how to continually shove your ridiculous decisions in our faces and fall back on half-brained excuses like "Well, everyone is using Reddit & Discord, so..."
Listen to me. I barely use Discord (it's horrible for having a proper discussion) and I utterly refuse to use Reddit. How am I supposed to engage with the community if J-mods are all hanging out on cesspits like Reddit? If anything, the way Jagex has neglected in-game interaction is precisely WHY the forums died in the first place!
But that's not even it. It's just garbage after garbage after
GARBAGE
and I've had it with this company. I grew up on RS, paid you thousands of dollars of
MY
money over 20 years to support this game. That's over. You were just getting my respect back but this is the final nail. You will NEVER receive another cent from me.
It's a shame my last post had to be negative.

The theory of everything ... it starts small and is expanding, what is old has to be renewed/upgraded/updated so it will carry the future ahead.
RuneScape has been renewed to survive ... so have other things to be renewed to carry our support into the future.
There are temporary features, not ideal, that help this renewal take place properly without leaving us empty handed. You still are able to use your ingame chat just like the 'Old Days'.
I can't believe you're listing the inclusion of pronouns as a game destroying thing on par with removing the forums. Do you even know what a pronoun is? Necromancy is more subjective and they made a point of addressing why it's frowned upon and how that doesn't apply to the players' use of it. The player is making a point of showing that ethical necromancy is viable by getting the consent of the undead they work with, which is tangibly more powerful than forcing them into service.
Hero Pass and the false advertisement they pulled with the christmas TH promos is
right there
and you made no mention of either. Good grief.

discord has its uses, but it wont replace forums.
I agree, which is why Jagex shouldn't be getting rid of the RSOF. The whole point of the RSOF was to give players a way to engage with the community and the devs in long-form discussions without having to use third-party services (which was, ironically, once frowned upon by the game's rules).
There is a
STARK
difference between evolving/improving, and outright dismantling your legacy for the sake of money or clout. Jagex is doing the latter, not the former. They're obsessed with destroying the past, despite hilariously claiming in the 15-year documentary that they wanted to get back to the original audience of the game. People loved whining about EoC and RS3 destroying the legacy of RS but those updates were intended as improvements. All Jagex does these days is remove content instead of reworking it or tweaking it. In this case, it's objectively inexcusable laziness on upper management's part. It'd take an experienced full stack web dev a day,
MAYBE
two, to get a third-party forum software up and running as a replacement for the RSOF. The databases already exist and even though it might take a little work to integrate
EVERY
feature (eg. the existing avatar format or the design/aesthetics), it wouldn't take much work just to have a new RSOF running SMF or some other open source forum architecture.
But nope, that's apparently too much work, so let's all just force everyone onto Discord and Reddit because that means we'll have the minimal output of work necessary so we can pinch an extra two pennies into our annual revenue! We're business geniuses! /s

It's one of a million things that Jagex has been doing which is ruining the game. If anything, that's just a further sign that Jagex has handed this game over to communities like Reddit as part of DEI stupidity behind the scenes. We don't need to have character pronouns listed in game journals. Period.
Necromancy's issue is that it completely IGNORES the themes of RS to begin with. This game has always been about the struggle between factions and religions related to the gods but even so, Gielinor always looked down on things like necromancy... and now, it's a skill. First, they destroy our role as the World Guardian, then they do that. They're literally destroying both Paul Gower and Dave Osborne's foundational work on this game's lore while shoveling modern world crap like pronouns in journal entries. You cannot tell me that's a good thing.
And sure, Hero Pass and the false advertisement is up there. I have a 2k character limit on posts, you know, and I DID say that Jagex has been making garbage after garbage decisions. You just wanted to nitpick at my mention of pronouns.

You say that and yet your post is full of pronouns. They're pretty grammatically important just to make coherent sentences. People use pronouns all the time and everyone has them. What you're really mad about is people using the correct pronouns and acknowledging that some people change pronouns or list them to eliminate the need to guess. That's a pretty silly thing to be mad about.
Necromancy doesn't ignore what the game's been about and it's not just about faction struggles and god disputes anyway. Like I said, they acknowledged the general disdain for Necromancy and addressed it in how the player uses the skill. Most people frown on it because it forces the dead to serve others against their will and robs them of their rest. This is a non issue for groups who have no moral qualms over this and is therefore frequently used in groups that are disliked for doing terrible things like that. These problems don't apply to someone who negotiates mutual partnerships with the dead, which is why the player's use of necromancy is ok. We're making a point that necromancy can be used ethically and doesn't have to be evil. We've worked with undead before this, so it fits in just fine.
It also works as a continuation of the player's role as world guardian, since we're working with Death, a guardian of Guthix on something Guthix tasked him to oversee and Rasial was one of Guthix's first druids. I have my share of disagreements on some of the writing and where the game's plot has gone but necromancy's lack of relevance to established themes and lore isn't one of them. The main issue that stands out to me is how annoying Rasial is with his chatbox pop ups and trying to take credit for mentoring you when he's just popping up to taunt you and steal anything new you've learned. It'd be nice if the game acknowledges he's talking out of pure ego rather than fact.
My point is that you focused on the wrong thing as far as game ruining issues go and gave better examples.

you think DEI is stupid?
equality is stupid?
adding pronouns ingame (which they have always been btw, they havent now recently added them) but yes adding them ingame is way to include everyone. it doesnt effect you in anyway, just because your pronouns you grew up with reflect who you are.
why are you so sensitive to pronouns? what is the issue with having them in game? they are very normal and have been for many many years. this is just showing that runescape is including them also. do you not want people feeling safe/included here?

but i am curious as to why this is so bad? (even though its been in game pretty much from the start) obviously ive seen a fair few people complain, i just cant see why its such a big sensitive issue for people.
This is my 20th year playing this game, and I suspect it will be my last.
Never has Jagex disappointed me more than it has over the past year, with a series of blunders which demonstrate not only do they not know their playerbase, they don't care to know us.
Shutting down our beloved RSOF will not spare them from paying the price for their mistakes. Without this forum in which to leave our feedback, players will have no other real option for displaying our displeasure than quitting.
If that is what Jagex wishes, you know the saying:
Be careful what you wish for - you may get it.
Aslon Dak: Still 'Scaping after 19 years!
You can buy XP. You can't buy experience.
Save the RSOF!
