maybe to Carlyle, who owns controlling interest.

They buy everything from skateboard fashion to industrial cleaning machines to bioscience investment to Italian motorcycle fashion to sustainability services to chemical manufacturing to...you get the drift.

And what do all of these things have in common?

Well, if you're good at it, you can buy one of ____________(insert hot item here) for a billion and a year or two later sell it for two billion.

They merch like the rares people do, but with RWT.

Jagex at times creates milestones for their employees to reach where they'd go outside to have what they call Jolly Events/Days to celebrate all the work they've been putting into the game which has proven to keep getting lots of players attention, even those who've said they've considered quitting cause Jagex didn't make RuneScape like a game by Nintendo, there's no end date for RuneScape's construction of more content and tweaking will end because that's not Jagex for you, it may be some video game making companies thing to do, make new games and support them with updates until they they've finalized a product not worth updating anymore but that's how Jagex does things.
So there's where 1 sort of use for where the happiness in GETTING the money from players comes into play.
The Well of Goodwill in RS3 and OSRS let players be able to donate their items in game as a way to help Jagex convert the sum of gp into equivalent of each dollar it sums up while also saying to only trade items in game to never get gold selling sites hijack real world bank accounts.
From what I remember, I think there was some Jmod's who donated out of the wallet real world dollars as well to the charities, the charities sometimes get people's attention so much, that some quitters have come back and it's also brought new players attention around the world as well to play the game as well.
Played RuneScape 2 when it came out a few days ago, that’s also when RuneScape Classic was still playable!

...Seriously, whether it's the idea of removing RS from Steam and forcing us to use your garbage launcher under the excuse of "security & convenience"

Oh I absolutely agree with their stance of security.

Firstly most people logging in through Steam don't take security seriously. Out of the other 3rd-party providers (Google, FB, Apple), they're significantly harder on account security and suspicious behavior.

People aren't losing access to Google accounts too-willfully; that's Gmail and YouTube. People aren't losing access to the largest social network, even more-so with Meta accounts and IG connections. And good luck even trying to lose access to an Apple account. But Steam? CS2 had a XSS exploit allowing account hijacks through no fault of the user; a game totally unrelated to RS. People lose accounts all the time with silly phishes with marketplace and item/card trading. Can't forget about the dozens of bulk-achievement unlocking apps too of varying origin.

The average Steam user is all too happy to weaken their account security, and Jagex can't control that. Even Blizzard was smart with still requiring their Battle.net log-ins for their games on Steam. Hell I'd like to think my opsec is pretty good and Steam Guard was annoying enough that I had to full-disable it for not sending me emails in a timely manner. I trust my email and single-use password length to make that a non-issue for account security though :p

And personally I find the Steam community a cesspit and not a place to discuss RS positively. I'd be fully in-agreement with removing it just for that but that would mean losing easy Proton/Linux support which I think is more important in the bigger picture.

source RS is being removed from steam?

It's not (for now, at least), that was a misunderstanding on my part but it was fueled by a really poorly-worded FAQ section on the Jagex Launcher page back when it was being rolled out. They said something along the lines of "For now, the launcher is voluntary but after it leaves beta, it will be the only way to play our games."

Again, misunderstanding on my part but they really should have said something like "It will be required to play the game on any platform."
