Every pure skiller in the game now gets to help pay for the death costs of the combat fighters.

Then stop being a pure skiller and start fighting yourself. Don't blame others for the limitations you put onto yourself.

In a recent stream the dev was talking about Masterwork armor. The intention was to make it so 'difficult' that most players wouldn't even do it. Instead most players made their own set.

IMO that highlights the problem with skilling. What can a skiller do that a 'multi-purpose' player can't or won't do?

Where is the value, where will the money come from? What is the skiller making or gathering?

Another problem is Croesus. There is a skilling boss, but it includes all the annoying features of combat. It's automatically bad, and who exactly is the target player base for that content? IF you like that, you would LOVE to play combat endlessly. It makes little sense.

If there were highly interactive activities like solo skilling boss encounters, would the skillers even participate? I can come up with a dozen fun concepts, but what is the reward? How does that make you money, and why can't everyone get it?

Edit: I just realized Croesus fits the description of being so bad most players wouldn't do it. If that's how it has to be then count me out. It probably explains why Runescape is so supportive of Croesus trolling.

I disagree. I enjoy Croesus and am strongly averse to bossing and most combat.

If that is true, then it's an example of skilling content which is comparable and probably better than most combat bosses.

They are obviously working on the problem, making plenty of new content for skillers. Are the people who consider themselves to be skillers playing a lot of Croesus? I have no idea.

Croesus has a lot of negatives, but as a skiller I have over 1k kill count on Croesus. It certainly does appeal to me as I'd like to do more challenging content, and this is partly why I a have not trained combat in ~15 years - I have limited myself to make the overall game more challenging. However, in doing so I have locked myself out of highly rewarding and highly challenging boss fights.

In my opinion, Croesus should not need combat related requirements to be effective to be a truly skilling boss. Everything you need or that will make the kill easier should be accessible to level 3s. I am hopeful that with any future "skilling boss" update that this is taken into consideration.

Also, based on your final comment, it seems you've never been to Croesus on the Group PvM server. It's very, very popular, and really popular for private groups on other servers. I regularly see Croesus drops appearing in the notifications.

Regarding your point on what can skillers do that killers can't do, well they can stick to the task for much longer periods than killers. If it's a monotonous task, such as creating masterwork, then a skiller will continue that task over and over, whilst killers tend only to be able to do it once then never again. This is how skillers earn their money, for the most part. After all, killers need more masterwork sets to recharge their original.

Personally, I'd love there to be more challenging skilling content. However, if it's highly rewarding, we're likely to see killers also interested in it as they tend to be just as interested in the reward, rather than whether it's combat or skilling.

Croseus has basically everything I dislike about bossing. Mechanics you have to carefully research to understand and execute for optimal loot lest you get yelled at by people for messing up, needing to deal with groups of likely unpleasant people because the content requires multiple people to collaborate to get the rewards justifying all the work and that hellish boss loot RNG that expects you to grind the content for ages to get the drops you're after. It's not enough to survive to meet the objective either but you also can't take too long or you'll lose anyway.

On the topic of the tax, I recently made a detailed analysis about it and the things that were said in the death costs post.

Exactly why I play games like this solo. Playing with others is only a pain.
