Jagex were very forthcoming with RSC.
Letting players know that it would be closed to new entrants.
Letting players know that it would no longer be supported.
Allowing players to still play the unsupported version while possible.
Giving players plenty of advanced knowledge that RSC would have to close down.
Looks to me like they did care, but the help you want isn't feasible.
Exactly.
Draco, I've kindly asked you to find your way out of my threads. You've been previously warned by mods about this.
Thanks.
What exactly is he doing wrong here? Disagreeing with you? Should I also leave then, because I don't think Jagex did the whole RSC wrong?
Draco trolled and purposely antagonized the Classic forums for months, to the point where enough people reported his "disagreeing" and the mods asked him to stay away from Classic related threads.
Yet you're doing the same thing here by harassing ppl and always telling those who disagree with you to leave when you cant.
I'm not telling people to leave, I'm telling you specifically to leave. You've followed me around the forums for months just to troll. Seriously, go away.

Outside of what may or may not have happened in the past (I was not a witness, nor do I currently have interest in digging into said past) right now I'm in agreement with Draco.
He's given you no reason here to send him away, he's not trolling or being rude or abusive in any way, he's simply disagreeing with you. So to me it comes across as you trying to single him out. Even if a mod asked him to leave certain threads, it's up to that mod (or mods) to enforce that, not you.
Like Draco said, you always have the option of taking it up with Forum Help if you feel it necessary.
I hope we can go back to on topic now.
Be the change you would like to see in the world.
Draco is simply disagreeing with a whole bunch, I wonder how big his list of people wanting to disagree on is, as he likes to engage in disagreement. However, I have to state I don't like simply cherry picking posts and just commenting 1 word such as exactly mods or those that want to heat things up. So please it will be good to get back on topic.
"It is now 100% certain that we WILL keep RS1 running past the RS2 launch. We understand that some people don't like us changing things, so RS1 will be kept for those people, and we'll try to resist updating/changing it! RS2 will meanwhile continue to be updated on a regular basis for the people who do like updates."
It wasn't until far in the future, 2014+ that Jagex even hinted that the game is a "membership addition to the current game", instead of a game on it's on.
Unaltered was the plan from the get go. Closing it down was not.
You can attempt to justify it how you'd like, but it was wrong plain and simple.
Andrew's no longer in charge. What he believed was viable, no longer is. What he promised doesn't matter. It'd be nice if they could keep it up, but they can't. It's not wrong to close it with the excuses given by Jagex.
Do you have to believe that? No.
"It is now 100% certain that we WILL keep RS1 running past the RS2 launch"
Keep RS1 running for how long past RS2's launch? When does RS1 stop running past RS2's lauch? These questions have never been specified. I'd love to hear Andrew's take on these. I'd like to hear his opinion on the excuses given to us that led to the decision to close the game as well. Don't know how much he'd be able to spill due to an NDA, though.
Didn't Jagex in the past express interested in "cheat" servers for RSC? Where they allowed people to pay for a server? I'm probably remembering that wrong, but I believe something like that was mentioned during its first re-opening? They could do something like that in the future. I highly doubt they completely got rid of RSC. They just closed it.

Yes they did, that seeing some people just wanted to bot it was an idea to make macroing pointless. They mentioned "we didn’t want to add to Classic all the measures to stop macroing and cheating that we’ve developed for RuneScape, because that would stop Classic being Classic" something I don't think was ever gone in depth, like OSRS could get measures on anti-bot that come from RS3 and that doesn't stop it being old school imo. But on a proposed alternative were those servers.
I think at the time they had discarded the idea because people just preferred the Jagex hosted RSC not surprisingly that at the same time Mod Dave was doing an incredible job on banning bots. Something which strangely was never done again after he retired or got fired (not sure which on was it). All of his posts were in the time removed (from public view at least) but 2 so left a big question mark. Work is work so it wouldn't be particularly smart to just get rid of it, I sure hope they can make better use of it than being shutdown which isn't giving them money, has a great portion of the RSC community sad, and moreover globally under what principles they operate now (as they are not the same on which Jagex was founded)

Well, Jagex obviously doesn't want people to play on a private server, but if they're not providing RSC, a private server that does provide RSC suddenly becomes more enticing.
So IF Jagex wants to prevent that, they'll need to think of something. It's not like they just came together one day and said: "Hey, RSC's not gonna work, let's shut it down". A choice like that comes from many issues that remain unresolved. Probably stemming from the "we don't want to change Classic" mentality. That explains why no J-mods provide updates to the game, even if they're stability updates. The game's provided as is, with no guarantee of any update in regards to stability and security.
But, Rob claims the game did in fact receive one last security update before it closed. I can't check that. But, I admit, that's curious. Copyright I can understand, but what kind of security update does it need? A quick patch that prevents people from accessing the client, if it somehow got leaked?
