Just for clarification:

RSC wasn’t an older save file of the game. The entire game was essentially remade in 2004, and released as RS2. The game engine was different; thus the Crystal Chest glitch did not continue past Classic.

Secondly, as I’ve stated likely over 20 pages ago, the crystal chest was a small bug that was easily fixed by a server restart.

Draco, you seem to keep bringing up one of the few “big” bugs the game had as a way to prove yourself correct, and you’re simply not.

Like you said, you’ve only played 5 years and you’ve never played Classic. Why do you feel your input on the subject is valid? You’re making yourself look bad, mate.

the only reason Classic was shut down is because there was a grand total of like 5 people still playing it.
maintaining the servers was a total loss at this point.

and still, they kept the servers running long enough so that the last Classic player could finish the Legends' Quest

Rob, I feel your pain. I agree it's a dangerous precedent what Jagex did with classic. Unfortunately people will learn nothing until they feel the pain themselves. It's how people are, if it doesn't effect them personally, what do they care. I do know from experience the pain of games that I enjoyed and put a lot of time into only to have them die off and I have become a bit numb to it.

I used to be very high in the rankings in Runescape and then one day Jagex added spins, mini games and all that fun fast xp stuff so that people could buy and fast track their way to the top. I posted endlessly of my disappointed of what was happening to the game as did many others but to no avail.

One day when everybody is maxed out and this game slowly dies, only then will they think back to your warning. I now personally look at this game as just a fill in to relax from the stress of real life and have no expectations it will be around forever.

Sorry about your loss, hopefully you can find another game to fill your time with better results. I hear Red Dead Redemption II is pretty good and I also hear its going to be be online soon :)

As far as RS Classic is concerned, there are no real lessons to be learned other than that everything you think you can rely on may not be there tomorrow so plan accordingly so you won't be as disappointed in the future.

So by "Jagex denied me this request", just so we're clear, you mean you emailed SOMEONE or something and they just never got back to you, right?
Or do you mean they LITERALLY told you personally and directly that they were unwilling to allow someone else to pay for them to maintain their servers?

Apologies for the late reply.

Yes, I was literally told personally that the offer for me to pay to maintain a server and hire a fix was off the table.

That's really strange/unfortunate. Very generous of you to offer though.

As someone who played RSC one time and thought it was not all that great, I'll still say I'm sorry about the way that Jagex handled this whole thing. You guys were loyal veterans and you deserve to have your game. The fact that a majority of us either didn't like it or were unaware of its presence or that we just simply never found the time to play it does not mean that the loyal fanbase who has been here all these years doesn't deserve to have it. It's a part of the game's legacy. Check my sig, support my man

I personally stopped trusting Jagex after Darskscape. What they pulled with Darkscape is the same exact stuff they pulled here with Classic.

Anyone who was actually involved with it could tell you just how much of a shitshow it was, and everybody who wasn't will only regurgitate the reterick that Jagex churns out. Whether it be Classic or Darkscape, or any of their other stunts, you'll see the same responses. And that is the problem with it all.

"In 2004 the Gowers promised players Classic would remain open to those loyal to it and decided to stay."

I am sure a lot of things "promised" by King George or Queen Victoria have no effects to the British people now.

I have played classic tyvm, so how about we dont make assumptions hmm?

Thus the only person thats making themselves look bad is you like always.

Also, its clear that classic is never returning thus this whole thread is null and void.
