I mean, what if Jagex decides to shut down RS3 because OSRS has a higher number of players, despite the fact that there are a lot more bots on OSRS? Or vice-versa because RS3 is the game making them the most money?

It's not a good situation by any means.

This is the exact Dangerous Precedent I'm speaking of.

The fact that they went back on the company's word, past owners or not, and screwed so many players shows that nothing is guaranteed from them anymore.

The end is near. Time to stop grinding and go live life away from RuneScape. They aren't worth risking any future time to.

If you ignore the reasons Jagex gave, sure it would be a "dangerous precedent".
But really, its their property. They can close it all at any point.

This is not something new, but something you have forgotten or didn't know.
You don't own your account or items, you just lease them.

Choose to play Runescape for what it is, entertainment. Projecting anything more onto it is your mistake, not Jagex's.

What if Jagex gives players a chance to port their classic accounts to either rs3 or ors? I think that would be a good idea.

I don't think so. RSC was botted unchecked for years.
There are items within RSC that if they entered into either game would do a lot more harm than good.

Well, I doubt that they'll shut down RS3 or OSRS for quite some time simply because of the fact that both games are making them ridiculous amounts of money (the franchise is a $1 billion franchise, up from ~$750 million just about a year and a half ago) and both games are the only things making them money right now. However, it's clear that Jagex apparently has no issue with shutting the games down if they're not making them the profit they want, especially once they have new games out.

That being said, RS is still my home MMO, I still love this game. However, if something were to happen, I do have alternatives (The Elder Scrolls Online is my primary choice, followed closely by Guild Wars 2). I just don't want to get to that point if I don't have to.

Rob, I empathize with you. I really do.

Sadly promises can't be kept if the people who promised them are no longer around.

Could it have been handled better? Certainly, but in the end, every company has to move on from the past and look toward the future, whether the player base wants them to or not.

I understand you feel you were wronged, however you also have to understand that time investment does not entitle you to change how a company works. Unless you are a shareholder, or someone of influence within the company.

Time and money spent on something, unfortunately do not allow you to change how that specific thing works, sadly. It's unfortunate but that's just how it is.

Off-Topic: If you have an issue with a certain someone the best thing to do is not respond to them and avoid post count inflation. Certain someone's can cause issues within threads and end up derailing them. Just a friendly reminder :)

*Shrugs*

The least Jagex could have done was allow the players who have held onto their holiday items for all these years to bring them to a newer version of the game.

Those items were essentially the only uncorrupted items left after so many years of neglect by Jagex.

I can understand them not willing to transfer XP or resources that were potentially botted, but holiday items were the only items left in the game that had actual value.

I say this not for personal gain, because I gave away all of my holiday items on the last day to people who hadn't had the chance to ever enjoy wearing them; I went to the void with only my green hat, which I don't need as I have them on all of the other versions of the game.

But, I feel for players that have been around all this time that literally got NOTHING from this. They couldn't even keep the items they picked up 17 years ago.

100% agree once again Rob.
So many players had rares on the game, loyal customers who hung onto these items for all of these years. Then Jagex just deleted it all.
I don't think many of the people commenting on this thread were RSC veterans like yourself so they don't understand the impact closing RSC has made.
