Winds...had followed your Thread earlier & had to be away...just got back to it.
I posted on another Thread, why are we encouraged to Vote on a fansite?
No reply. I struggled to go on reddit. But, did. Struggled to vote. Felt stupid.
YES, had to register, on reddit, to vote on an RSOF process!! All the while, questioning why?

This is, and should be, of serious concern to most.
Eegods.
Thank you, Winds.

Forced to Reddit to vote and now forced to Facebook to enter a competition.

Not to mention the weekly Twitter giveaway that already exists.

Nicely done, Jagex. Very good strategy to ensure more RSOF users go elsewhere.
I have a feeling the reason they're linking you to facebook to enter the competition has something to do with Marketing Agreements, rather than to specifically direct you off-site. Jagex seems to have entered into a partnership of sorts with Amazon, and there are sure to be stipulations they have to adhere to in order to keep the partnership running.

It would be one thing if Jagex bought the items, and held them at their headquarters until dispensing them to the players, but this feels more like a direct deal with Amazon for them to provide the items.

Bear in mind this is all an assumption on my part, so I could be wrong.

Your logic is, as always, impeccable.

I just don't like being directed hither and thither in which, at first glance, seems a random manner (to me). And to off-sites which I have no wish to use, but am left with no choice but to visit and register on if I wish to participate in votes and competitions :@

Sounds plausible. So apart from having a Twitter account (which I never wanted) to ascertain snippets of news, it seems I now need a Reddit account (to use and not just browse with), plus probably a Facebook account (which I most definitely do not want) and .... who knows - probably an account with Amazon in the future, again something I do not desire to have.

Who will they 'sell' their playerbase numbers to next, one wonders.

@FiFi, Hi, Lol, no you pegged it, it was by definition, random & helter skelter. IMO, it appears that the disdain for the official website has reared its ugly head again since the customers were once again directed offsite when they didn't have to be.

I don't like being directed offsite either since there is absolutely no reason to be directed offsite in the first place. I am hard pressed to think of one person I know of who would enjoy being directed from one place to another place only to end up back where they were at in the first place either.

The type of marketing tactic that directs customers hither and thither & away from the companies website is akin to karaoke amateur hour at the local bistro which is why most companies do not direct their customers away from their official websites. I am sure someone somewhere will put forth the notion that this was a successful marketing ploy only to find out in the end that it really wasn't.

SOLUTIONS

Commentary

Needless to say, a companies official website is where all the action takes place. It is the go to place for information on a companies existing products & the springboard for launching new products & services. Social media platforms are utilized by companies to draw the consumer to the official website not away from it. That is pretty basic stuff that is time tested & works to benefit the company.

When the upper level tier of a company directs interested parties, new & existing customers to its official website then one would assume that the middle & lower level tiers of the company would follow suit.

When the middle & lower level tiers do not follow suit it tends to give the interested parties, new & existing customers the impression that the company is lacking in cohesion which in turn reflects badly on the brand.

The solution is simple. Follow the lead of the upper level tier of the company.

@Mhopkins1, Hi, welcome back to the forums! You were not alone in your dismay about being directed offsite to vote in the 'Ninja Backlog Prioritisation' either. It appears that very sentiment was also expressed not only RSOF by others but on Twitter & on Reddit as well.

Tbh, it is a bit ironic to associate a backlog with the term ninja fixes since it appears that term was coined to mean something that takes a small amount of time to fix...

Again..."backlog" correlates to your "'Round-Tuit" explanation...which has been
smelling, for some time.
This in itself, would not be so bad, if other actions were not so prohibitive.
