The one fansite barely alive we're all referring to is essentially nowadays a clan forum; with a couple outside cliques at best. However, the RS wiki usually updates information quicker and more efficiently than any fansite does in all fields -- which is why I believe they become so null and void. The RSOF isn't needed anymore; yet it'll probably forever stay due to it's current state of one-off posters complaining to Jagex in Item Discussion or General their account got banned for botting, or hacked, etc.. we've all seen it. For a company like Jagex and a game like this, having the RSOF makes them seem a little more professional, imo - despite how unprofessional some content and efforts towards it overall may seem.
Social Media is awful. Everyone is simply about ME ME ME, trying to grab attention however they can.. whether it's a poorly done tryhard Reddit meme in Microsoft Paint (
dank
), a Twitter account posting they gained 86 Fletching, 71 Firemaking, crap like that.
I get it, community involvement is a great thing in an MMO. But feeling self entitled to gain something for attendance or promotion within the society is doing it all wrong. I guess that's how the world works nowadays, though. Shame really.
