FB has only likes. It works fine :) ^Yes it can happen, less likely to happen. Trolls are on the internet for the negative side of things, we have had plenty over the years in these forms. I've never seen a troll that a positive troll that's out to fill the internet with love.

Maybe if it's voting type scenario, yes it would go both ways. But with average conversation threads not so much.
If fat means flavour then I'm ******* delicious!

The only thing you are after 'Imagineering' is getting up a system which displays the amount of 'likes/dislikes' and for the rest you don't care a hood what is or will be discussed, you're interest is which side gets the most and that legalize your idea to be taken on board or not.

NOT going to happen

The problem is you're seeing a like/dislike as something separate to a comment. The idea being that this more 'tempting' option will be used instead of rational discourse, thus diluting the discussion. In most platforms this is true and not a point of contention.

However, the proposal has been modified in such a way that a like/dislike now depends on a comment. This means that a like/dislike can no longer be thought of as a separate entity to a comment, but rather a comment manifested into a quantitative form.

Here, a like/dislike is only as strong as your comment.

One who comments a clear troll, derogatory, or filler remark will have his/her comment removed (as it is currently), and (by extension) the like/dislike.

Others who write short, uninformative and vague responses will continue to do so with/without the system. If your grievance is with such people, I suggest you make a thread asking that such comments be removed. This is a separate issue.
So it really isn't needed to make a like/dislike feature as it is a total waste of development time. Just read what people say and if it takes too long too much texts to read maybe, if you dislike that, you should apply better thread-management

It's true qualitative data (e.g: comments) has its advantages over quantitative data (e.g: likes/dislikes). Some of these advantages include the following:

A) The ability to better articulate one's objections to particular suggestions.
B) Allows for an initial suggestion to change and evolve over time.
C) Possibilities of opening up meaningful dialogue to better discuss an idea.

On the other hand, quantitative data is not useless, and has it's advantages over qualitative data, some of which include the following:

A) A more practical way to view data over time.
B) Easier to work with and come to certain conclusions.
C) Provides objective and measurable data which is useful in predicting patterns.

One is not 'better' than the other, rather they're different tools used for different purposes.

No support, it creates bias/causes conflicts, even people on facebook with just likes i'v overviewed it offends people...."no one liked my post yet..." you just posted it, it's fine. "but 50+ friends online" gah....i gave up on FB as i never liked everyone's posts and they get angry at me if i didn't like one.

Stance on reddit upvote/downvote i hold even higher in the damage it does to people. I have an 'Army' of aged accounts on there, 20+, with each one i change my personally and typing style and use vpn's with what server each account used noted down, so a history check would pass. I think ahead to bypass everything that can be.

Disclaimer;

And no, i don't have Runescape forum Alts under a different personally, i am skilled but I would never gamble risking this account to a ban, plus jagex blocks VPNs and some games ban gamming accounts that use VPN's.

^I gain nothing from alts on runescape forums, reddit on other hand, i want to crush their "bully" system. <--that is what i declare it to be....

People just want acceptance in today's time. Runescape forums do not need a dislike/like option.

Couldnt agree more.

We dont need more ways for ppl to bully others as theres enough of that as is.

So just because some ppl cbb to type out messages doesnt mean this should happen.
