Plot Twist - Jagex are so annoyed at people on the forums moaning about Jagex only talking on Reddit and Twitter, that they are trying to use CAPCHAs to force all the remaining forum users onto Reddit instead of interacting here :)

Lol you joke, but the amount of times I have had to prove I was not a bot over the last few days HAS put me off foruming :@

I am at my wit's end with this shit.

"Are you a real human being?"

"Are you sure you're a human?"

"Really, are you SURE?"

"Please, just one more time: Are you real?"

"No, really, we mean it, one more: Are you SURE you're real? We promise, it's for your own good."

Every fucking time I try to log in OR out on this garbage website, I'm prompted for this. You know, for my "security" (but certainly not my sanity).

REMOVE IT NOW! :@ :@ :@ :@ :@

Not too long after my last post here, I logged into a few alt accounts for the first time in over 100 days. Each time, I got the automated "welcome back" message you get when you haven't played in a while, and each time, I was asked to solve ANOTHER captcha. Mind you, this was from an automatic process that Jagex themselves initiate when you take a break from RS. Beyond pathetic.

I never had any of these "captchas" or w/e so there must be some sort of thing that triggers them right?

Even when i use an alt for like once/month or so i dont get one.

Are they only triggered on certain browsers?

I just had one of these while logging in to the MOBILE CLIENT (of all things).

This has got totally out of hand.

And again!

This is the MOBILE CLIENT....it has already been verified with an authenticator. The extra step of the captcha is completely unnecessary.

There seems to be a misunderstanding of what CAPTCHA challenges are, and what they are for here.

CAPTCHA challenges are not, as suggested, a primary account security tool akin to the Authenticator.

CAPTCHA challenges are however, a tool used in order to protect our systems from abuse when our provider decides that a request is a little unusual for a countless number of reasons, and thus we need to affirm a user is human.

CAPTCHA challenges are important to keep RuneScape running, and to do things like reduce / ideally stop mass account creations by in-game website spammers. This is one of many cat and mouse games that we work with our partners to mitigate and is definitely not at a level we are happy with. If this system wasn't in place, we have recorded hundreds of thousands of attempts to create accounts which would then log into the game and ruin your in-game experience,

CAPTCHA challenges do protect your account when a malicious user might be submitting a large number of requests.

We are not going to be removing CAPTCHA challenges from the website, for those reasons. While I understand the frustration, we do work to minimise interruptions for our legitimate users and that work continues, as well as the provider of CAPTCHA (hCAPTCHA) continually improving their own service to be easier for humans, and more difficult for bots.

Thanks,

I don't have any problem with the concept of why captcha is here.

I am saying Google seems to be playing some game beyond that protection. It seems that they choose 'volunteers' to run checks 100% of the time for a certain duration.

I can see how they are toying with me personally. Initially I was tasked with identifying 3 buses or boats. The difficulty has been increasing as if I am going through a pre-determined set of puzzles.

Recently they started adding streetcars which are painted to look like buses and the identification has increased to 4 correct answers.

My guess is the visual differences will continue to decrease until I have finished the 'volunteer' session.

IF they just wanted me to do a couple dozen puzzles I actually might volunteer to help out.
