Behind the curve by about 15 years and the "select to reveal" shows your paranoia is strong with this one..

Except you don't seem to realise it's a measure for saving bandwidth to those loading the web-pages.
Images don't even start to load until you click to reveal. As clicking will load a full-sized version, and the limit of Imgur is I believe 20MB, and you can post up to 23 images in a single post, 460MB per post for an entire page (10 posts/page) from a spammer could mean 4.6GB of data from opening a thread.

So for those on low-speeds, images can be a problem. Those on capped data, images can be a problem.

But you'd know all this if you bothered to read back on any of the other posts on the subject. :p

Enough of the condescension.

Other forums have managed this problem just fine for many years by not restricting themselves to one image hosting site. Beside, when only 30 people are using the forums these days, the chances of anyone getting lagged out are very slim.

It's a case of Jagex' teams actually caring of the players, rather than just throwing a feature out without concern for the people using it.

Security concerns, data concerns - something Jagex stress heavily, with the game in question only using a couple hundred bytes per second.

As for why only one site -

The reason we didn't go with puush was due to the "recent" malware infection.

Obviously this could easily happen to imgur, however when investigating sites we went with imgur.

Not saying puush will never happen, but I don't see a reason to add this as well at the moment. Confuses things even further for users that aren't particularly computer savvy, as we've already seen.

Thanks,

That's not to say other sites won't be supported in future.

Thank you
Whos Dr
for the explanations, very informative :)

I didn't think his posts were condescending (well okay, maybe the "But you'd know all this if you bothered to read back on any of the other posts on the subject. :P " part), but if that's all you're focusing on then you're missing the majority of his post, and as such his genuine intentions and enlightening information.

You make valid points, but my point is one of Jagex's own inconsistency. If there is a profanity filter option in-game then there should also be a profanity filter option on the forums as well. Consistency!

Oh, I'm not exactly arguing against a toggle, but then it runs into a whole logistical issue (That the censor was overreactive and that it would remove completely benign words like password).

If I remember right, they said that it would require a lot of background coding to get it to work even remotely properly to the point where it's not worth it for them to do it. Plus, it runs into the issue of that posts, unlike comments in game, are persistent, which goes back into the background coding.

Is it possible? Absolutely, just about anything is possible in programming.

Is it practical? I would presume not.
