Why does it say "select to reveal" when you have to click to reveal?

You are clicking to reveal.

A user on mobile* has to select :)

* yes we know the rest of the experience is terrible...

But mobile users are inferior; why do we cater the wording to their people?!

I have hover-to-open. On my end, it's right!

Awesome update.

My only change is allowing us to reclick the image to rehide it. I have this rational fear some troll will post an NSFW image.

Also (possibly?) the ability to turn it off completely, if the user wanted to.

These suggestions don't supercede just how happy I am the Runescape forums finally entered 2009!

You should consider making profanity an option on the forums like it is in game. Don't take away our right to choose whether naughty words are shown. It's an option in game. Stay consistent and make it an option on the forums as well. Some of your players would rather not be exposed to such vulgar words. Please make it so that *everyone* can enjoy the forums - not just those who are okay with seeing profanity.

To be completely honest with you:

You would be very hard-pressed to find a place IRL where you *won't* hear profanity (even schools of all places have it).

Besides, you'd more than likely just skim over the post anywho as the censor was just making the post that much more obvious there's swearing, leading to a (sort of) Streisand Effect. This also ignores that you're still imagining (whether consciously or subconsciously) what that person is saying, completely destroying the point of the censor anywho.

You make valid points, but my point is one of Jagex's own inconsistency. If there is a profanity filter option in-game then there should also be a profanity filter option on the forums as well. Consistency!
