It's ridiculous that there is no ability to end these conversations without letting some other person flood your threads with ignorant, incorrect statements.
There needs to be a way for the owner of a thread to decide enough is enough in regards to insanely stupid trollbait posts crapping up their thread.

There is, if you find someone going off-topic and/or breaking forum rules, send a report to Forum Help.

Just because you might not use it doesnt mean there isnt an option.

You don't need me to tell you how slow and inefficient of a solution that is.
I'm sure you've used Forum help and are aware that it takes a very very long time to get results.

an ignore feature would be an initial development investment, but in the long term it would allow the community to self moderate much faster, and it would reduce the amount of staff Jagex has to pay to manage this hell hole of a forum.

-Every other major social media allows users to block unwanted communication.

-Unwanted communication leads to bad user experiences.

-bad user experiences lead to lack of positive engagement

-Lack of engagement = less customer = less profit

There is a reason successful companies all have a blocking feature.

It isnt really, whenever i post on there they're usually pretty speedy about getting things done.

Also just because other places do something doesnt mean its liked there either.

I mean ppl dislike the karma feature on reddit so thats the main reason why it hasnt happened elsewhere or if it did it got removed.

So why cant you just not read the posts of ppl you dislike?

Another thing i thought of recently, what if said person you dislike is a f/jmod or a CM?

Are you just going to put them on ignore?

I dont see that ending too well.

Yeah, ForumHelp can be a bit sluggish during low manpower times e.g night times and weekends/holidays so trivial reports don't get sorted as quick as they would under normal circumstances. That said I don't see why someone would not use it.

It's understandable that you get tired of people, but I can tell with confidence that self moderation is a disaster in itself! Groups will start encouraging others to block X person to essentially ban them from viewing most content in the forums. It will prompt witchhunts and make people feel unwelcome.
Life is like a camera: Just focus on what's important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don't work out, take another shot !

"whenever i post on there they're usually pretty speedy about getting things done."

Your personal anecdotal evidence. I know it can take weeks to get mods to respond.

"Also just because other places do something doesnt mean its liked there either."

Yes, but it works in Runescape, we have an ignore feature in the game right now, and nobody is complaining about it's use. Runescape has had an ignore list since classic.

"ppl dislike the karma feature on reddit "

I don't care. I'm not talking about reddit karma.

"why cant you just not read the posts of ppl you dislike?"

Because the same people come into every thread I make and clog it up with posts.
and as I scroll down and see the responses to my thread, I can literally see them. *cough cough*

I don't have a mental illness that allows me to just Ignore stuff that is right in front of my eyes. I cannot turn my eyeballs off, it doesn't work that way. You must have a pretty warped perception of the world to think people can do that.

"what if said person you dislike is a f/jmod or a CM?"

Jmods don't trollbait threads all day long.
Jmods don't respond to every thread I make to tell me I'm wrong about literally every opinion I ever post.
Jmods don't follow me around on the forums and annoy me for no reason.

They are a little more professional, since it's literally their job.
and I have reported F mods using the review thread as well.

Exactly.

So this would not improve the forums at all as it would crate more hiveminds.

Not something that we need more of.

Doesnt mean anything, you could just be having a bad day and decide to put ppl on ignore and one of said ppl happens to be a mod.

So im sure theres been plenty of ppl annoyed by mods and theyd end up on their ignore lists.

As they shouldnt be ignored as their posts need to be seen, for obvious reasons, it makes little sense why you need to hide non-mod posts.

"That said I don't see why someone would not use it."

I never said I don't use it.
I use every feature available to me to solve my problems.
As well as advocate for more.

"It will prompt witchhunts and make people feel unwelcome."

I already feel unwelcome by obnoxious posters.
Why should a troll feel welcome on the forums but not me?

If you look through my thread history, you'll see a few reoccurring characters..

People who don't break any forums rules , but enjoy following my every move and constantly belittling my opinions and posts , after I have politely asked them to stop in the past.

Using forum help does not work, because like I said these people aren't breaking major rules.

They are annoying me and making me feel unwelcome, without violating forum rules, so moderators can't do anything to help me, beyond telling me to just put up with it forever or leave.

This is why I am seeking out an alternative solution to the problem, because the available solutions are leaving me (and assumingly others) unwelcome and unhappy currently.

These forums are not extremely active, and I am attributing that to the trolls and overall negative experience, resulting from a lack of a block feature.

No ones telling you to just deal with them, we've given you options on what you can do.

Just because you choose not to do it or are incapable of doing so doesnt mean this should happen.

Loads of ppl are capable of just not reading what ppl say so this seems to be a mostly you issue.

I do it myself thus it can be done.

I mean you choose to press enter to respond to ppl so just dont respond to ppl who you dont like.

I never suggested anybody be able to block Jmods.

Jmods are staff and they don't actually interact with the community like normal people.
Jmods do not have the desire nor time to troll and bait and harass users.
