You saw the gorilla dragging the kid carelessly. Yes, we can all agree that the gorilla was trying to protect him, but you can't take ANY chances when it comes to an actual human child inside a cage with a huge gorilla.
Who knows, maybe the gorilla would've kept dragging the kid and the kid would've hit his head with something, or maybe the tranquillisers wouldn't have worked as quickly and the gorilla would've snapped and hurt the child in the process. They went for the safe option because there were a lot of variables to consider and I don't blame them.
You know the worst part is had something happened to that child because they tried to go with the tranquillisers route, public opinion would've bashed those zookeepers as well.
"Omg I can't believe you let that kid die".
"Wow, zoo owners are so greedy. I bet they didn't want to lose money by killing that gorilla so they tranq'd it instead and now the kid is dead".
I stand strong by this: if you prioritise a gorilla's life over an innocent kid's, you need to reevaluate your life.
It's sad, yes, but no matter how protective gorilla was being, that protection could've proven fatal.
