Nice! I haven't played MH4U in forever so it'll be nice to pop it in and play for a bit at some point. I'm really busy IRL for the next week or so. But maybe in the near future we can finally team up!

Yes, Monster Hunter Generations is the localized, Western release of Monster Hunter X. IDK why the name change but it's basically the same thing.

I'd really recommend you getting it when you have the funds! I've had a lot of fun with it so far and some of the quality of life improvements and additions keep the game fresh. One downside this go-round is how many gathering/small monster quests there are in the Village Quests... Also, this game doesn't have a G-Rank but it's still apparently really fun and challenging with plenty to do in end-game. Even without G-Rank.

the majour issue i have with monster hunter games is

a) fighting the camera

b) 3s under water fights were cancer

c) urgents in guild hall

from mh4 the thing i love most tbh is very simply put

climbing walls in frozen waste, jumping from stalactite to stalactite like a boss so i can wake it up with a massive jump hit to the face, made me feel like a real hunter

about x, is there any new weapons? or just those super flashy moves?

No new "weapons" but some people are classifying playing as a Palico a new, 15th weapon. There is one feasible build on them (boomerang palico) that allows for decent dps, but it's definitely not the "best". People say it would probably rate in the middle of all weapons in terms of effectiveness/kill speeds. However, they are awesome to use for gather quests because they have unlimited stamina, unlimited pickaxes/bug nets, etc.

Those flashy moves are called Hunter Arts and they add some nice variation to fighting. There are also 4 styles to choose from that alters how you play. Guild (that's pretty much the traditional formula), Adept, Aerial, and a 4th. Adept lets you dodge right through certain attacks/roars while also dealing a hit or two. Aerial sends you airborne and lets you attack/mount. I have no idea about the 4th lol.

I have a New3DS so the C-stick helps control camera for sure. If you have the older style of 3DS, I hear the circle pad pro is an awesome extension? Having another a way to move the camera with your right thumb makes it so much better. Also, pressing L while being locked on to big monsters helps you face the right direction in a jiffy.

I also hated water battles with a passion! Movement and evading was just such a hassle and I'd always go where I didn't mean to go...

I could be wrong but there are not going to be as many awesome areas as you described with the Frozen Waste unfortunately. This game in general is a celebration of Monster Hunter's history and thus most maps/towns are all from older games. For that reason, you can probably see why there might not be as much complex terrain as you had fun with in MH4U when they specifically designed it to incorporate their new mounting feature. But don't get me wrong, there are many walls and such you can jump off of when climbing. Just not so many stalactites as you had fun with :-P

the arts sound annoying, variations all good and that but still no idea

palicoes? im honestly not sure what i think to that, mid tier is fine though, as long as you are good enough with any weapon, low dps, shield or not you will always be useful in a party, id take 5 perfect counter lancers over 1 trip happy longsword or a animation trapped dual sworder

i own a circle pad pro, i brang it up earlier in the thread, but at times the camera still gets stuck in walls or inside of monsters, i was standing on jjen mohran before and hte only thing i could see was his insides

i hated water battles because if lagicarus and gobul, i just sat in a corner with a lightning spear to kill it and waited for it to hit me, my lagicarus dodges ended up getting me killed because the direction it went in was weird and or really didnt move at all....

i dont mind mounting in mh4, insect glaive is a little op with it, when im having trouble and get pissed off with my charge blade i tend to switch to my ig and just spam jump things to death

overall i dont have any multi experience tbh, knew nobody who played mh3 in aus(finished all of g rank solo)

didnt have internet when i first got mh4 so couldnt multi it then, and tbh, online guild urgents are cancer so i really havent bothered with doing online play
