Cool. I'm still at the same spot in the story/caravan and I have urgent quest to unlock HR4 online.

I did have a full gore megala armor set but I didn't like the skills/negative fire res. So I made a mix set: Ceanataur Helm, Gore Mail, Ceanataur Braces, Gore Faulds, and Tetsucabra Greaves. This gives +10 handicraft which gives you the Sharpness +1 skill. I use dual blades so this is awesome for me to get blue sharpness this early in the game.

I gemmed in Health+20 but I'll check my talismans and which decorations I can make. Maybe I'll be able to add a more useful skill like Sharpener.

Also, I have the Felyne and Melynx dual blades or whatever they're called. This has +150 paralysis and I can usually paralyze a monster 2-5 times in a 4 man hunt! It really speeds up the kills because the heavy hitters (charge blade/hammer, etc.) have a lot of time to land huge hits.

I also have made two Rare 4 dual blades specializing in Thunder and Water. So I have some strong weapons now for solo mode :-)

Edit: Yup, I tweaked talismans and decorations a bit. Now my active skills are Health +20, Sharpness +1, and Speed Sharpening. I'm satisfied for now.

fire atk+2 and atk+2, yian kutkut+barroth+gems on the armor set i normally use for bow, but i rarely get hit, mixed with poison coating on spread, most things die quickly, i really love pierce though, ill probably get proper gear for melee weapons though....

Nice.

I just unlocked 6 star caravan. I do all quests instead of only key quests. That's why I'm not progressing too fast. So in 1-5 star I have a gold check mark meaning I completed all the quests.

Still in HR4 online. I am not progressing too far in that as I need to backtrack and finish a few quests in HR 2 and 3.

Still the same armor set. But I need to get new, better armor ASAP if I want to keep moving further online. I joined some people doing HR5 Najarala (I literally just unlocked HR4) and each major attack that hits me wipes out most of my HP lol.

Weapon wise, I have all 5 elements of dual blades AND they're all upgraded to the best I can get them at this point in the game. I also upgraded my Felyne and Melynx (paralysis weapon) to a Felyne and Melynx+. So I'm pretty set with weapons for now. Dual blades have low raw power so exploiting monsters' elemental weaknesses makes a big impact for dual blades.

Initially I wasn't going to get every element for now since weapons and armor keep getting outclassed as you reach different stages in the game. But I remembered that I can upgrade them all eventually to the end-game weapons since weapon upgrades are different than armor upgrades.

I'm liking where I'm at in the game so far. And I'm finding it a lot of fun overall!

Update:

So I was in a pretty good team for a few hours. We knocked out all of the key quests in HR4 gathering hall together and did the urgent one for each of us. We all got to HR5.

Farmed a few kills of the HR5 monsters for a few kills each. I can make decent high rank armor (only mixed sets so far, no full sets because of the obscure parts you always need). But the stuff I can make doesn't give any useful skills. So I may hold off on it some longer.

I have all meal ingredients upgraded to 3 star quality! Well except for Drinks. That one is 1 star right now. I also got the multiply guy to all 3 star markets.

Also, I unlocked 7-star caravan somehow with only doing a few 6-star quests. I didn't even think the ones I did were key quests.

Some free DLC is released on March 6th (or so I hear)! I'm definitely looking forward to that!

i think the dlc is the devil maycry and metroid skins, and in terms of speed, insect staff pretty much rips everything, can do most lowrank in about 10 minutes using tier 2/3 insect staffs, outside of eldar dragons....

I was thinking of getting the 3DS version of the game. I had gotten MHU3 and was very disappointed to find that I couldn't play online with other players. This forced me to find people with a Wii/Wii U w/ the game and play online through their console after I've connected. Does the MHU4 for 3DS support online play? If not, I'll sadly not be wasting my money on playing single player :|

What's a Nintendo Direct, much less the game?
Is it like a new console? Or a new handheld thing?

The only Nintendo items I ever experienced were Super Nintendo and the Handhelds from the Original Gameboy (which I still have in perfect condition, still works too) up to Gameboy Advanced. Anything after those I'm completely in the dark about on everything as far as Nintendo goes, including games.

I'll try my best to explain. Nintendo Direct is to Nintendo what Behind the Scenes is to RuneScape/Jagex. It's a sneak peak (in video format) of projects Nintendo is working on. I THINK they're released monthly (not 100% sure) but some months don't have any big reveals of course.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (abbreviated MH4U) is a game exclusively on Nintendo 3DS/2DS (which is the most current-generation handheld by Nintendo excluding the newly released 'New Nintendo 3DS'). The game was released February 13th, 2015. The exact release date was announced mid-January which got a lot of the hardcore fans of the game (like myself) hyped.

Just like your situation, I had a Gameboy Advanced as my most current Nintendo handheld for the longest time. I completely skipped the next line, the Nintendo DS variants, and purchased the 3DS when it first came out. It's a few years into its life cycle but I feel like the library of games is pretty diverse and has something for everybody. I'd recommend getting one if it's something you're interested in.

The game itself (MH4U) is very fun and addicting when you get the hang of it. It's also somewhat grindy like RuneScape so I personally thought I'd see more fans of the game in the HLF community. It doesn't seem that way though.

Let me know if you have any further questions. I hope this helps!
