Working out your maintenance macro's is a far better place to start. Once you work them out it's pretty basic..
Deficit for shredding and a surplus for bulk

Aye, gonna need 0.8 g/lbs protein to maintain/build muscle both on a cut/bulk and 0.4-0.6 g/lb fat, keeps your test production up
And fill the rest up with carbs
People tend to lose the big picture with all these diets out there, literally anything works because at the end of the day it's always about how many calories go in your body, everything else is just secondary
