Oh I didn't know FunOrb used the older template for their forums.
I have played around a little with re-skinning and de-skinning the forums. But I don't like the fact I have to do it after the DOM has loaded. Seeing that flicker from current skin to a new skin really put me off and that's what I want to avoid.
One thing I really want to do (had limited success) is catch and block requests for images and some style sheets. Rather than wait for them to load and then apply my own styles and remove images, I'd prefer to not have them loaded at all.
The benefits are huge, no flickering, faster page loading (assuming less requests and less resources), and I can build the page before the DOM has it. I'm having trouble with this though, it's do-able and I have had some encouraging results but I have not perfected it.
Seeing those styles makes me want to revisit that idea again.
I guess to sum it up, the problem for me isn't re-styling the page, it's preventing some of the current resources from loading in the first place. If I can do that, then there will be no holding back
That simplified theme is amazing. I'd definitely use it if it meant faster loading times
I mean, the forums load fast for me so mainly mobile internet users will be the ones that benefit the most out of it, but still. It looks good too.

I've been using 3G for the last few years (might be close to 5 years now). And yeah I read that same way as you Rowley.
The ideas with re-skinning the forums are nice but there some things to consider. Assuming I can prevent certain assets from downloading, that wont necessarily make things faster.
It could reduce bandwidth but it won't supercharge the Internet and make electrical/light impulses travel faster through copper wire or class cable.
It wont make less work for the servers, they'll still push out the same amount of data. The time taken for the server to push the data to your browser will remain unchanged. The only thing is, the data might be able to travel down a narrower pipe.
From the browser perspective there may be less data to receive but not necessarily less to do (that depends on what I do).
Anyway I'm still a long way off from re skinning the forums. But I like the fact it's generated some interest. I'm looking forward to looking into it after I finish the changes to my website (grr@ mysqli for punishing me, and just grr@ databases!).
RS Linkify Version 3.1.2.8 has some improvements, I'm not sure if it's 100% effective but I just went and viewed every image in the Boss Records thread, using the lightbox.
So far not once was there a problem, so I feel as though I'm the right track and pushed out this update. However I may still need to make some adjustments, but I need to see how this goes first.
As always, thank you for your feedback
Whatever you did on that small update worked for a short time, but since like Friday it's been right back to doing the same thing. :c
