Hi All,

This fix should now be live. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Thanks again,

Mod Ernizr.

Looks like it's working, thanks for the
fast fixes :)

I've spotted an issue :o

The backslashes for apostrophes are still appearing.

Here we go again (issue is only visible with linkify disabled)

Lol, I was trying to find the perfect title and I thought this one was the best I could do, don't know how to get "Super Super" like others have but I'm proud of this one. And thank you so much for the picture :) , also I was trying to figure out how to do that, thanks again :)

I wouldn't expect that to be fixed anytime soon.

I notice they removed the
Bump
links. I wonder was that because it was useless...
or did they think it was also a security vulnerability, or was it an accident and they haven't realised they deleted it?

Edit: Small update. Version: 2.0.9.6

Forum reporting is doing it what it should be doing again.

I removed the '\n' fix since it appears to be fixed. However I have kept multiple backslashes followed by ' fix, as it seems that hasn't been fixed.

They appeared on posts within a thread created by you.

Edit:
Wait my mistake they still exist. It must be they don't appear on sticky threads.

and yes I think you might be right about the backslashes

Nexus / Blasty,

It's good to see people interested in development techniques, I don't usually get involved in the forums but I'm happy to get stuck in when it's development related ;)

The code base for the forums is old, and old code is never good. It was written long before I became a Mod and so now I am part of the team which is looking to improve the website by building all new pages with improved functionality and usability, check out the new responsive splash pages for example.

With regards to this forum issue, I completely agree - it's silly to duplicate the content of the message, you could simply grab the original and parse that. Also personally I would have looked at server side but as you suggest, previewing the message would have been heavy on the server. It would be worth investigating both methods and see which performs better.

The truth of the matter is we hope to redo the forums in the New Year which means cleaner, more maintainable code that takes progressive enhancement into consideration. Whilst these old forums are still running we have to weigh up if it warrants us spending hours trying to update the existing messy code base to redo how it functions or whether we just employ a quick fix to resolve the problem at hand and save development resource for the bigger projects that are coming up. On this occasion we went for the quick fix to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

I hope that clears up why we took the decision we did but I agree with you both completely – there are far better ways to handle bits of forum functionality and we will make sure we get it right with future updates :)

Thanks,

Mod Ernizr.

You're not the only one with redoing code on their mind ;)
