Part of it is resigning yourself to not having as much time to play. Once you do that, you can prioritize your goals in the game. You'll have to essentially give up competing with others who have more time to play than you do. But all that is ok... life is all about change.

Find game activities that you think are fun, like slayer tasks or farm runs or whatever, and focus on those so that you look forward to that hour or so you get to play every so often.

If you have kids old enough to play, show them the game, so then RS becomes part of your family time instead of Dad locked away in his home office on his PC. I've known parents on RS who play the game with their kids.

True, I know there will be that day where I just come to terms and fully accept the change in my life schedule (most likely after graduation).

Anyways, I've still have those two other questions in my previous post regarding time gated content and different Internet Service Providers (which can affect PvM related content), so how does one go about those two things?

1) Regarding time-gated content in the future, how would I go about it without neglecting it or falling completely behind?

2) Group requirements like PvM bosses or content that requires more than just one player to start or successfully complete, how should I go about this? (I think about this quite a bit since in the past I often have shitty Internet connection so that would make PvM a nightmare or nearly impossible. When I move from my apartment to somewhere else, I can't guarantee I'd have just as good of a Internet connection (or better or worse). )

1) Time gated content is always quick to do, 2-3 hours for a weekly chore like statues; and 20 minutes - 1 hour max for reaper tasks daily.

2) If it is just reaper req, make sure to be around for release. Always masses going on at that time.

In all seriousness though, if you had any experience working full 40 hour schedule like during summer breaks, free time is going to be like that. It's easy to pick up 6+ hours playing rs on a week day.

Thanks for the assurance Lifer and I will do my best. :) In the meantime, I am quite a bit ahead of my own schedule for 120 slayer. I'm sitting around 83.4M xp with less than 21M xp to get there.

Recently, I have just reached an epiphany due to a rather unfortunate experience in PvM. A little background first though. About almost 3 years ago, right before Soul Reaper came out, this boss named Araxxor and Araxxi was released and that was the boss that kept me from recomping and to a larger extent, continue to find joy and purpose in my Gielinorian adventures and goals.

The last night was just horrendous, I could not PvM worth shit to save my skin and while I did eventually manage it, it was so bad that even a noob with some competence would laugh. Hell, if there was a worst pvm’er award, I’d probably win 1st place in that (or maybe at least top 10 worst Pvm’ers). Long story short, let’s just say that I went into Araxxor, died even with several revives, a few from acid spiders (I don’t know why but I moved my character, yet my character is still being an idiot and still gets hit, I guess the radius is larger than just 1 square (or not). Then another time, I got cleaved to death on one of the easiest paths, (path 2 and 3 were open when I attempted this boss). Finally if that wasn’t bad enough, I died mostly at Araxxi while trying to prayer switch and juggle the mechanics. If it wasn’t for several reward enhancers and sign of life saves, I’d be dead, dead, dead over and thorough.

(continued on the next post).

“Just enjoy the game.” “It’s just a game.” “Don’t worry about what others think.” Really, I don’t compare myself to the good Pvm’ers let alone the top pvm’ers who would kill bosses like eating candy left and right. There is something called “standards” and I happen to have standards for myself. Yes, I feel that I could do better and that it is unacceptable to waste 100k or something per attempt, not counting all the failed attempts and eventually succeeding. While it is true that I have prevailed in the end, a pyrrhic victory isn’t something to be proud of. Now, I don’t expect to be very very good, but at least to a certain acceptable standard such as dying much less frequently and using less supplies, cleaner kills in general.

“You’ll be back.” “You can never quit.” This is not a quitting thread. I have never said I would permanently quit or will be quitting. In fact, I am most likely going to go on a partial hiatus in a few months, which is around the time of my 3rd anniversary of first receiving comp cape. I chose that date since it would be a good place to take a break along with some other milestones there. There was about a total 12 months in the 3 years (including all the small downtimes) in which I did not recomp, the longest streaks (7 months) which were during soul reaper’s release alongside with the spider boss, and then once I conquered that, my will and determination to press forward has returned. Then comes Invention, which I could have cleared in about 2 months of hardcore grinding, but I spread out the grind through 4 months instead since to me that would be easier and less taxing on top of school work at the time. So mid April 2017 would be a good milestone of 3 years of holding comp cape.

“Why are you posting this?” “Tl;dr.” “Blah life story.” “Well you don’t have to do it if you don’t like it.” “No one is forcing you.” (See the above paragraph.) I feel like getting this off my chest and just saying what I need to say and be done with it. The matter of fact isn’t that I don’t enjoy the game, I still do, but in the long run, I realize that I have come to a point where I’m having to stress out to get where I want to be, and while the end goal is good, the journey there many times is just too taxing. It’s not about whether I can/can’t, it’s a matter of whether I am willing to suffer through emotionally and psychologically to get to where I am. The short answer is no, it’s just not worth it, but I did enjoy the times that I have been able to and I would not be doing this forever and forever. I just think this is a good time to come to a good (temporary) stopping point in the game.

If you have read my whole story, speech, rant, etc., then thank you for having taking the time and energy to go through it and I hope you can understand things from my point of view. I wish everyone well in their adventures in Gielinor and if or whenever I return, I do hope to be caught up with recent events and also not miss out on something important (group events or reqs, if I decide to ever recomp someday in the late future). In the meantime, I will enjoy the next few months or so and just wanted to give a shoutout to all the people that have been supportive, encouraging, inspiring, helpful in general.

I don't post much on the forums, but I wanted to chime in on this thread because I think that it is important for a lot of folks who started playing as kids or teenagers (like myself), got older with the game, and now find themselves with less time to play and more responsibilities IRL.

I started playing as a teenager, through high school, college, graduate school, and I'm now in my late 20's. I have a great career, an amazing relationship (just got engaged), and I generally love my life.

This only became possible because I reflected my relationship with the game. Take some time away from RS and think about it. Your RL happiness won't be impacted by in-game achievements, but by how fulfilled you are by what you do, who you spend your life with, and how you grow as a person.

Good luck.

Thanks Alexmorganis, I'm glad that you are able to enjoy life in general. :) Btw, I have made my decision in the last 4 posts (page 9, posts 5-8). I believe and hope that my decision is a good decision for my well-being and quality of life in general.
