Why post on the RSOF and hope for a JMod reply on a suggestion after 3 years when we can get a JMod reply on a Nex Blood Phase joke post, for example, within a few hours on /r/runescape?

I think that the intent was to get an insight from the high level community rather than getting a reply from a JMod. This kind of post isn't likely to get many upvotes (and to be seen by a JMod) because the majority of reddit has like 1k total.

My point was why would we want to sit around and pat each other on the back about whatever topic on RSOF/HLF with minimal chance of a JMod ever seeing or caring about your idea when the same discussion could be raised on reddit, twitter, or some other social media and be noticed by far more people and JMods almost immediately and have a non-zero chance of impacting the game?

Think we're on similar pages here.

It's just that if a topic like this gets posted to reddit you'd get a bunch of haha mod kayla, lolforums, cx, "it's not fair that I can't access the HLF when I have 13m invention xp" ect

I agree with you, but some stuff is better suited to the HLF which makes it even more of a shame how it has been so completely neglected by JMods for so many years.

Lack of interesting content worth being discussed is the biggest reason.

HLF was rather useful for finding tips and tricks to min-maxing your experience gains, or finding the best strategies for beating content.

Content now is extremely straight forward. AFK a seren stone or just use MTX. Video guides have certainly exploded in popularity and can show you how to beat things much easier than anyone could ever explain to you through words on a forum.

Menaphos should be a huge talking point with it being such a large update. What I could surmise from without playing it and only reading the forums is that it is almost completely made up of a time sink involving fishing lower level fish? It may take many hours to complete, but when all of those hours are taken up by extremely AFK methods theres nothing to discuss, nothing to talk about, no "hey what order should I do things in to maximize my progress", its all just sitting there being mind numbingly bored.

Im pretty sure our most successful threads of recent memory are of boss pets and invention perks. Both updates requiring players to bounce knowledge off one another to discover information and figure out the best way to accomplish things. The forums aren't totally dead, Jagex just doesn't give us enough things that require interaction.

Like everyone else has said, the forums have pretty much died. There used to be hundreds of players on all the time and now the max I see is 30. Jagex needs to do a complete overhaul on the forums and make them more attractive again.
This exactly.

It also doesn't help that everyone and their 5 alts have access to HLF, so nothing here seems to be as special as it used to be.

Probably because I was away for some months. Wasn't here to hold Jagex's hand so they got all sloppy.

Don't say reddit, because I have checked that forum several times. There is nothing on the site that would even suggest it was related to this game. Just a bunch of random words and nonsense.

But at least they try I guess. The folks here were just posting garbage links with no text. Good job?

Most people have touched on the simple fact of a general malaise among discussion forums. I used to moderate and administrate both my own and other people's boards during my teenage years. They began dying with the raise of social media platforms which allow for instant communication between people and platforms such as Reddit having more appeal.

I admit that HLF dying sucks because I maxed after playing since 2002 and gained access to these boards last December. That final nail in the forums coffin has been Jagex's support and use of Reddit for communicating with the player base.

I sure miss those old discussion boards running software like Vbulletin though!
