Because maxing doesn't mean what it used to. I've got a book of excellent ninja type update ideas, where does one submit ideas/suggestions? There used to be a thread on this forum, it's gone, and also fuck reddit, i don't use that pos pro communist site anymore since they quarantined the only good reddit, the donald.

HLF didn't die this year, it died in 2013-2014 for multiple reasons:

1. A certain someone was given power and immediately power tripped and banned a bunch of people from HLF. That Jmod no longer works for Jagex as of two years ago.

2. A second person was given power and immediately power tripped and unfairly banned a bunch of people from HLF. That Jmods no longer works for Jagex as of last year.

3. Jagex started ignoring forums and only responding to Reddit/Twitter. We used to have a High Level Suggestions forum, but it was useless because Jmods never looked at it.

HLF was good in 2009 honestly, but there was limited players, Mat K was the HLF curator at the time so we could joke around.

I think Reddit was a reason for the forums to die.

The HLF is hardly special, you have tens of thousands of maxed players now.

Most of the Jagex Mods dont come here anymore, it was nicer in general when you had people responsible on the forums like Mod Emilee.

Sadly there's not so much interaction between Jagex and players anymore, and the forums just lacks support.

When your own moderators use Reddit instead of the official forums there's something inherently wrong.

Obviously it would be nice to integrate the forums and the game somehow but it will never happen.

I think the meta also changed in RS, the game is a lot more AFK people would rather browse reddit and go to the RS subreddit or watch Netflix.

Its not that the RSOF died, its that a lot of Jagexs designs are redundant, and they honestly just don't interact with the community well enough.

Think your timelines off. 2013-2014 was peak activity for HLF.

Pre-2011 we were a tiny community. Around 2011 maxing your account became a big time goal and we had a few wealthy players who maxed out crazy fast due to how efficient camping Cave Crawlers(in Pollnivneach Slayer Dungeon) for effigies was pre-nerf.

Then 2013-14 which was roughly a year after eoc had been with us had massive waves of people joining as end game skilling methods started and certain minigames which trivialized older skills were being introduced.

Then come 2016 there was some sort of purge. You legit can't find record of it anywhere except by hearsay nor was I active during this time period on any account, but a certain troubled Jmod decided to go on a power tripping spree.

Up until this point HLF was a goal, not just because of the whole meme that the game starts when you max, but because the LLF weren't that great to post on for... reasons. HLF was probably a good chunk of the activity for the entire forums. Yeah, there were trolls. Hell, during peak years we had a few sessions of drama scapers posting their exs nudes(or what they thought to be) here on these very forums using the old forum enhancement kit(rs linkify, god you remember when that was relevant? also bless indy).

Reddit stepped up and stole a lot of activity. You could honestly tell during 2017 that a lot of hlf had migrated over onto reddit. It was bound to happen anyways since the place was far more usable than the forums(and in general, its a social media platform that has more popularity while not even Jagex likes their own forums).

Either way, reddit is now in a rut. Activity on r/runescape is actually at a pretty all time low(which is kind of weird when you think about the worldly circumstances). You kinda have to wonder where the community is going now.

The 2016 Purge was due to Mod Infinity. Because he felt like is was his job to 'moderate' the intentionally unmoderated forum. We lost a lot of people (myself included), none of whom deserved their removal. I got removed from the HLF for defending someone who was telling Infinity that he was full of shit (which he was).

IDK WTF Infinity's issue was, but it's been well-documented by several sources, not the least of which is this comprehensive video of his JMod abuse:
