If a person afks something it is because it is boring. If a game is boring to you, why bother even playing?

that is a remarkably faulty pseudo-argument

there is a lot of shit in this game that wasnt even meant to be playable.

I think it depends on how you define playable, lots of content in this game seems to be a comp creation.

Because RS isn't the standard playable game, it's an mmorpg, by definition some roles will be boring. If you want to play, play, but lots of this game is achievement. Titles, pets, xp targets etc. So Lots can be afk'd. Afk skill methods are practically impossible to non-afk, literally like watching paint dry.

Having said that, since quitting the xp grind account, I've hardly played. So much of what I want to do on the Iron requires far more concentration than I'm used to so I'm only playing for like half hour, doing a quest or achievement and then logging out and watching something on one of the services like usual.

I get tired of people saying they are bored. Which happens a lot. So they afk and play other games. Pretty much this game has turned into an afk fest because skills are a repetitive grind. It is not the nature of a mmorpg for single player gaming. It is about teaming raids. Yes building up character can be a grind. But you do it for a final goal which is fun. Not a brag fest.

There's too much focus on post 99/120. Back when S U O M I was grinding for 5b, the idea of max xp was a bit ridiculous. Some got 200m's, but most got max/ comp and began working on other activities to 'play' and enjoy as part of the game. Max xp became a thing and Jagex focused on making that as easy as possible, both through super afk skill methods and (rather cynically) making buying XP all that easy via mtx.

Now XP means nothing, but there's no going back. One of the appeals of OS I guess.

For me, I quit the XP account, the one with far too much bonus xp (11.5m slayer bonus just from daily login keys), and a good chunk of xp from promos back in the day.

I'm back on the Iron, not because it feels pure (not having the choice for mtx makes me feel good, sure), but because I'm forced to play the game the way its supposed to be played. I'm currently mining 20k silver ore for crafting (thank god for the m/s rework), which I appreciate is semi-afk, but it's a means to an end. I've done quests and achievements (things I never used to appreciate) for additional access to features, and I actually feel better logging in and playing properly for the first time in years.

AFK if one likes, play active if not. Either way, it's what we get out of it that really matters.

I'm actually going to make a thread on this later, had the idea yesterday but only just recalled what it was specifically.

I've done all of my afkable skills, just solo Dungeoneering (not at all afk) and Slayer (semi-afk at some times) left for comp. Then I can finally quit this disastrous fucking collection of garbage game and go play the better version.
This is way too true. It's sad.

Actually I find it pathetic. Considering that January there will be a new skill going to 120 and 2 existing skills going from 99 to 120.

Shame that nobody got why Dungeoneering went to 120. It actually had content to 120. The other skills did not even have material going to 99. So the brainstorm, of the players, make all skills 120. Then the MTX made it so people just bought 200 mil skills. Game just became about experience vs actually being about content. OSRS is actually beginning to take the same road.

I'm looking forward to the new skill. I always do. Dungeoneering was more of a minigame though, it's a shame it requires (for the best rates) others to level and 77 is dead now. It's rewards are fanstastic, good weapons (not so much these days) with ease of access. Plus I actually like training it, or at least I used to back when I got 120.

I couldn't care less about xp now. Like when I got my first 99 and the rest had less achievement. I have 1 200m skill and now I see no real point in it. When I max my ironman, I'll get comp, push for pets, titles etc, rather than xp grind.

Edit:

Also, dung's unlocks after 80 are basically floors and a few bosses. Technically in order to get all the rewards, some serious time would need to be put into it, but they're not locked behind level reqs so that's really up to you.

Problem is that Dung became toxic because it was not played right. Players just became toxic. Instead of it being fun, it became a chore for many because people could not learn to team. Being in a good team, who played the skill properly made it fun. It was about working together to achieve unlocking the next floor. It was not a mini game. It was basically an automated D and D. Since many, who play RS, never really played D&D that point was never understood. Sad thing it got nerfed so badly over time. It was really fun in the early years.
