I have been using voice chat for several years now. It is a graet idea. I've used it since I have been clanning for wars and other group events with friends. I've used Teamspeak and most recently, Ventrilo. Why? Communication is must faster and keeps your hands free to play the game. In the time it takes to type a simple sentence, you could be dead. While I still use the clan chat and general chat for quite a lot of things, in the fast-paced things, every opportunity to improve your speed counts.

love to see:
AOE chat Like they have in MAG, for mini games or other closed off ares like: soul wars, GOP, clan wars ect. i love talk'en smack to random players that come close.
a decent way to mute unwanted noise/offensive players

hate to see:
my game lag due to the chat.
people in the younger audience getting there feeling hurt because this may be there first time with a voice chat.(maybe a added part to the security school {thingy?} south west of edgevil before your able to use it?)
mini games that would require or would only be fun with voice chat. MAG is one of those games and almost no one has a mike :( . the voice chat would make a great ADD-ON to what you are already doing.

I am very thrilled by the idea that Jagex has considered such an idea. Chatting is fun in of itself but with voice it will definitely be more. I voice chat with my friends all the time on console games but only a few times on Runescape through the game program Steam. An integrated, in-game voice chat feature would definitely make me happy. If it's free, it'll make me even more :3

voice chat would be awesome! typing can get to be a nuisance after a while and sometimes makes things hard to get your point across. Voice chat would be a great thing for runescape, however, could it work with the clan/friends lists?

I use voice chat for most games, but only when I'm online with people I know in real life.
I can't see using it over runescape, but I imagine alot of people (clans fighting bosses or doing 'activities', especially) would get some use out of it. My only three concerns are:
1. This is obvious, but it must still be said. There HAS to be a way to mute people/turn off voice chat. Similarly, there has to be an option for allowing the voice chat to be played through speakers, headset, or both.
2. I worry that some organized events will become exclusive to people with microphones (and feel like using them). As an example, what if I join a group for Dungeoneering and they kick me because I'm not using a microphone (or won't allow me to join in the first place).
3. Profanity. I don't think I need to say any more than that. You can't filter voices like you can typed words. I've always said that if a person knows the definition of the word then it doesn't matter if they see it typed in a game or see it in a movie. But when insults like that are directed AT them verbally, it's entirely different.
Also, why is this a forum-goers exclusive poll? Why isn't it on the front page?

i usually use this for when i am gaming on xbox live but i think this would be a great idea for runescape because it gives more interaction with those you are talking to and if you know any of your friends in real life u can talk to them like u would normaly withought over 100 people talking at once and ruining the conversation e.g. world 1/2 grand exchange, i think the best place for this thought would be in a clan chat so there isnt anyone else talking over you during the game which usually annoys people so you might lose players to that

I dont really like this idea
I think the yellow text above players heads (or other colours if you want)and the chatbox are some of the basic and key features of the game.It wouldnt really be runescape without them.
voice chat would make it confusing and you would have to remember what people have said instead of scrolling though the chatbox
also, can you imagine world 2 GE?

I could see this being useful, but there would have to be certain features if i was going to use it
mainly, i would have to be able to restrict who i can hear, and who can hear me, based on age.
I don't really like watching what i say, yet i also don't like speaking the way i generally do when there are younger ears listening - i tend to moderate the way i talk, more so when I have my wee little lass in earshot, so a feature to only allow voice chat to certain age groups would be a basic requirement
