Voice chat would ruin the "works on dial up" aspect of the game. One of the main things that attracted me to runescape was it's ability to work seamlessly on a dial up connection. Also won't voice chats place enormous loads on the servers and players? I think sticking to skype would be the best option.
If you do plan to release voice chat I hope you make sure to make a few closed beta servers since I can imagine a million things going wrong with that.

it would be cool for voice chat but im going 2 disagree with this. What if there were lots of people in the clan and everyone started talking at the same time, won't it be hard to listen to one person or talk to a few people when no1 is listenin? O_o

i dont like that idea because:
1. a massive Lagg :( 2. you dont want to hear people that you dont know or want to hear.
3. you cant report someone for offensive language than(because you cant prove it) :( 4. you can better use skype or teamspeak and things like that :)

It would be a nice Idea and you could create your own chat and put in it a ******** so only the persons you want to talk to could enter. :) Also create chat rooms with diferent subjets like "Quests", "Boss Hunting", etc. :)
Nice Idead if it would actualy be created!

I'm inclined against it. There are a billion of things that could go wrong and not that many people really even want to use voice chat in the first place. The ones that do find other voice chat clients and trust me, they can find servers to use.
This is just yet another classic case of jagex trying to fix something that ain't broke. The ones that don't voice chat don't need it and the ones that do need it already have it.

Voice for RS is a wonderful idea. When I was at runefest I talked to the Audio guy about it. It had been in discussion. The two big issues with it were:
Bandwidth
Content filter
What I mean my content filter is how will Runescape prevent players from swearing in Voice for example.

RS would have to have the same options to voice as they have in clan chat. Such as:
1.Can player A speak
2.Can Player A mute other of lower rank
To save on Bandwith RS may want to make make Voice like a two-way radio; you can only voice one way and with one person, and while you are talking they can't talk and vice versa.
If voice was with multiple players then a Push-key to talk is needed to help elminate back ground noises. This would be a must.

Just becasue your hearing impaired does not mean that they shouldnt bring this to the game.
If you have a hearing problem then just dont use the vioce chat, I'm pretty sure they will keep "text" as it is and just add the voice chat in.

Most of that I've read as to why it sould not come to game is :
1)Lagg
2)Because a person doesnt want to use voice chat
3)Because they have dial up and it will effect thier game play
4)The texting isnt broken so dont try to fix it
5)All the cussing/bad behavior/trolling

What I think
1)So what if there is lag you deal with it now so there isnt really much you can say to this effecting your play.Ever stop to think that it might not be Jagex's fault you lag, Pay for a better internet provider and do us all a favor and stop whining.
2)If you dont want to talk on Voice Chat no one is making you, Simply dont use it - nuff said on this topic.
3)GET BETTER INTERNET PROVIDER! this isnt Jagex fault, l2payforDSL/highspeed internet. If you cant afford it then get a better job.
4)They arnt trying to fix it simple minded people, They are just making it better. You will still have your precious texting, so stop using this as an excuse.
5)No matter where you go someone will cuss/be bad/and troll, Theres no way to stop it. So get used to it. If you really care what a 10 yr old says about you then you need to go see a doctor becasue odds are you have self-esteem issuses.
