LOL.
I use voice chat to talk to my friend while we're playing dungeoneering. We always end up laughing it's so much fun. XD He's funny. :p It's easier and funner when playing RS 'cause then you don't have to type as fast as you can. O_o Gets annoying. :p
I can't help but think of all the inappropriate things that could be said over voice chat though...
EDIT: I had a thought. If you decide to do voice chat for RS, maybe you could make a downloadable client specifically made for voice chat? Maybe RS wouldn't lag as much.
I s'pose it could work similarly to Vent, but you could join the chat channels like you join a clan chat?
Arrr! Only th' Devil an' I know th' where'bouts o' me treasure, an' th' one o' us who lives th' longes' should take i' all.

Sounds like a good idea.
It would be really helpful for many people, for example me. Being part of Divination, current Jagex Skill Cup winners, it really helps to communicate with my fellow clan members when skilling, or even just chatting.
I personally do not have many voice chats, it is only sometimes where on Skype I talk with my fellow clan members.
I only have doubts on how this will work, if it will be a sucessful thing, that it will benefit other players also, and just not cause further chaos.
Questions must also be raised, such as:
What and how will Player Moderators play their role in voice chat?
In larger populated areas or even in a large group, how will this voice chat work? How will it deal with many people talking at once?
Some suggestions:
Have a mute option.
Adjustable voice levels for different people.
Thanks,
~`Amrit`~

I think i it's a great idea, and as several have said, best to use it as if it were a clan chat. Open wouldn't work, so doing it in the nature of a clan chat, a closed group would be great please do that yeah so ok good bye.

Voice chat might be a nice feature if an individual clan chat setup included an option for typing as well. I know of serveral friends who play Runescape that are hearing impaired. This would make it impossible for some and difficult for others to participate in a clan chat process if typing wasn't still an option.
I don't currently use a voice system as I play with a company computer on off hours and it is against policy to download any programs. I also am concerned with additional lag or disconnects and security issues that such a feature might have.

that sounds like a great idea!
I used to enjoy talking to ppl whil playing RS, using Ventrilo. I also know from witnessing political arguments that henceforth come from this that it needs to be well managed... here are my suggestions: (im assuming that the voice chatting software will be inside the RS code, and within the game, which would be preferable)
1) Never force someone to voice chat. people should have an option to turn on/off ALL voice chat aspects of the game
2) the system should work similar to how the clan system works (voice chatting within clans would be good too but i talking bout a different/ separate system). you should receive an invite to join any channel ('channel' referring to any one group of chatters)
3) the chat system CANNOT interfere with the bandwidth of the game; if someone isn't using the voice chat system, no lag should come from other users using it.
4) it must be light weight and responsive; there wouldn't be any point to battle tactics if the people cannot communicate effectively
5) like the chat system on the just-logged-in screen, you should be able to enter chat channels @ that point; without entering a server to actually play
6) entering channels should be (or an option to be) invite only
7) NO PUBLIC CHAT
8) no voice-overs.... please.... there's no point... and it only wastes power and lines of code
9) possible separate window entirely to help manage channels
10) programmable hot keys
thanks!

I have never used Voice chat; this is because i have always been limited by the technology, equipment and programs necessary for it.
But I have always wanted to!
If you can devise a simple and safe way to implement it into runescape i think that it would be well recieved!

Sounds like an awesome idea, but lets not have it public, lets keep it in the clan chat, it can get very annoying if you want to go the GE and just hear a bunch of chatter, maybe a new option right click speak-to? or priv. message voice chat IM's i'm not sure but I think it would be a bad idea to make it public

I honestly am excited that this is being brought up. I encourage the idea of having voice chat but there are things that could go wrong like cursing and lag. I recommend that it's option to turn on and off to avoid having lag and that foul language is possible to be heard. I think this would greatly increase the gaming experience overall though :)
