I think it would be wonderful to have a voice chat system incorporated into Runescape, preferably at no cost, otherwise I may as well use skype. I think it would be nice to be able to talk to my friends directly through that instead of possibly having to give up other account names for other voice chat programs. This also provides a convenient way to talk to people instead of text chatting, as mentioned.
I have seen voice chat systems in other various games, that are built in, and i think you could get some good ideas by checking in to them.
from those, i think that a system where we can create seperate channels that are permanent (seperate from clan chat channels) would be quite nice, where we can set up a ******** so that only yourself and select people can get in to. of course, there is the risk of people sharing information, but that is an ever present risk that i think everyone should be aware of and is responsible for when they are on the Internet in the first place, and a voice chat system wouldnt really help creepy stalker types get personal information more so than they already can from text.
alternative to *********, to solve the problem of unwanted persons from getting in without banning everyone who doesnt have your ********, you could give the option to the creators of said channels to only allow people who you must manually put in, or allow friends only plus other people, or friends of friends, or something similar (though that could be kinda chaotic)

great idea, would make chatting alot easyer, dont rlly think it would work for public chat but would be great for clan chats.
ow btw, firefox blocks the poll page "because it is fake" and gives big red screen

Also, my FireFox browser comes up with a warning screen. Is there something awry with one of your adverts?

Voice chatting is something I think is the gateway into a better gaming experience. For about 3 years now, I have been using voice communication with Runescape friends, and to be quite honest, I cannot imagine playing without it.
They are many advantages playing with voice chat. Players productivity increases tenfold, meaning more information can be distributed quickly as opposed to typing. It gives you a heightened sense of awareness as well. You can get to know your RS friends in a whole new way and play a whole new way as well.
In my 3 years of voice chatting, I personally have never experienced any threat to me or my account, so I am saying if your smart, there shouldn't be a problem to the security of your account. While some voice chat software's ask for personal info, it is optional at your disposal.
However, with the use of voice chatting software's, there is that potential of your IP being obtained, or a file sent, or a fake RS link, and unfortunately it does get the better of the players, but as I mentioned earlier, the SMART player knows not to click suspicious looking links, knows NOT to download files from other players, and usually has a decent router with firewall/DDOS protection.
As I was reading this thread I noticed opinions varied throughout the players. Some people saying if Jagex created such a voice chat software, they probably would not use, and I can understand. The creators of voice chatting software's work on nothing but voice chatting, which would make it difficult for Jagex to compete in that technology. However it would create an ease of access and a potentially less security threat, if one would exist.
Like I mentioned earlier, I cannot imagine playing RS with out voice chat, it seems like such a necessity for communication. I have practically turned my whole friends list and clan over to voice chat for communication. In the end I think more positive things can be done with the help of voice chatting.

I personally don't use voice chat over RS because I wouldn't want to risk breaking the rules by giving out personal information.
However, I do talk on the phone with my IRL friends while we play because it makes it a lot easier to communicate while doing difficult tasks (and more enjoyable too).
If there is a way to include a report abuse feature within these voice chats, then I'm sure it would be a great addition to the game.
Overall, I wouldn't mind seeing a version of voice chat being implemented in the game.

Regardless of weather Jagex decides to implement their own RS based voice chat software, I will continue to use voice chatting. They truly are a great group of people with great ideas, so I'm sure whatever- If they do at all - come out with something, it will be fantastic =)

Voice chat is useful because sometimes you cant type things fast enough as you need to say to someone which is why a lot of people your vent, skype, and others. I can see it as a good idea only if it does not lag the game like world of warcraft's ingame voice chat
