I'm not using voice chat in runescape currently, but i do use it elsewhere. It would definitely be a good idea to add this feature (Actually, it's one of those features that i've always wanted to see in runescape)
First idea that popped to my mind was some kind of "add-on" to clan chat, that you could turn voice chat on\off, mute people etc, if you have the rights on that channel
Then again, the possibilities are endless, and i thought about activities, such as clan wars
Imagine doing some clan wars rounds with random people. If the voice chat would be in clan chat only, it would be pain to gather up all those people who are willing to discuss with their team using voice chat, and get them to join the same channel
For this they could consider adding some kind of team voice-chat for activities. Of course it's fully up to the players to talk or stay silent, and there's also the problem of possible spamming. Push-to-talk option, and the ability to mute people (affecting only yourself) would be much needed
What will happen to this idea in the future, i can't possibly know. But i do hope that voice chat will be seen (or to be specific, heard) in runescape one day

Was wishing for Jagex to come up with some sort of voice chat!
Personally I was really missing it training the dungeon skill.
Think it'll make it a lot faster when you can just communicate through voice rather then typing.
And am sure it'll be very useful for many other skills as well :D
Really hope it won't make the game laggy though.

I mostly play alone so have little use for voice chat. Also I know many husbands / wives out there that get very annoyed by the other spouse playing games that have voice chat especially. Wouldn't want runescape to get that bad reputation ;-)
Don't let it negatively impact the performance of the game.
If it is a paid option, make it a separate fee from the membership I don't want a price increase for something I don't use.

I would definitely like to have voice chat in RuneScape. As long as it's free, there would be NO issue of me using it.
If it wasn't free, I think a reasonable price could be about $1 additional per month or $2 for RuneScape AND FunOrb.

The main reason I don't use voice chat now is because most of the people I talk to are only-RuneScape friends, so I don't have their numbers and had no real reason to find out.
But, if RuneScape offered this, I would certainly use it, as long as it isn't like $3+/month for only ONE of the websites. *2 extra a month would be the most reasonable price (that isn't free) for both websites, considering the prices of the games themselves in a proportion to the chat service.
So, I would definitely like a free/cheap voice chat addition to the game!

I'm not convinced that voice chat would be good for the game at this point. With all of the effort that supposedly goes into combatting cheaters and players who have less than honorable intentions, it seems like voice chat would just pose more problems and necessitate more moderation.

Personally, I think that is a great idea. I used to use voice chat but I found out that people could actually get your ip and somebody had to host(or pray) for the server. I then switched to "steam" which is an online client for games etc. Once you buy a game, they'll enable you to add friends and in turn use the voice chat as well as typing which is pretty awesome in my opinion. I had to resort to this method because skype is unfortunately blocked in my country yet I know that a lot of Runescape players use skype for voice chat/typing.
An idea I have is that you enable voice chat for clan chats only and enable the leader to, for example, allow only players X, Y and Z to use it while others may only type. The reason towards this is that if a lot of people talk at the same time, nothing can be heard clearly (this goes for massive clans).
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I sincerely hope that this piece of information helped you.
Cheers ;)

*has a vision of an RS which is the first MMO to implement area-driven voice chat*
EPIC.
I mean, like how there's area sound effects, if spoke through a mic then people 1 square away would hear you clearly, people 2 squares away would hear you a bit quieter, etc.
It would be optional, of course (to be a participant or a listener, or just have it off entirely).
And yeah, I use voice chat most of the time while playing.
And if you think the above idea would be impractical due to everyone talking at once in areas like the GE, think again.
If everyone talked at once, no one would be able to hear each other - everyone loses. So a Ventrilo-like conversation would naturally develop so people could actually hear each other.
And in the past the limitation has been the problem of profanities - but now with the option to turn the chat filter off, that's no longer an issue.
I think it would very epic - and no other MMO to my knowledge has such a system.
