i use voice chat outside of rs for boss killing and just discussing the game as we play, no matter what we are doing, i would hate to see voice chat added to runescape if thats what this is getting at, so many rs players shouldn't even have the ability to type given to them, let alone the ability to type with profanities, giving them the ability to make random noises down their mics to annoy people or flame/insult/scam/harass people is all that would do for them.

Hm... Can't say it's a bad idea :D Although, I have a few questions for JaGEx.
1) Will this run as part RuneScape (The actual game) or as a standalone program? (If standalone, skip to question 4)
2) Will this affect gameplay at all? (latency and what have you) (If no, skip to question 4)
3) Would it be possible to have certain worlds dedicated to voice chat (a themed world, if you will) so others who aren't using it can avoid the extra upstream/downstream traffic?
4) What took you guys and girls so long? ;)

Voice chatting would be an awesome addition to the game. It would make chatting with friends or a whole clan so much easier instead of trying to cram messages into one line of text. It would also allow for a lot more joking around and good times to be had. Not to mention that it would make dungeoneering and mini games a heck of a lot easier, and would actually add some sort of skill and tactic to them.
If I may make a suggestion, I would strongly recommend having a key-bind to talk though, and maybe even a limit of a 30 sec message or something to eliminate spam, but I'll leave that to you guys to figure out :P
Bottom line -- YES!

Players may also be 'forced' to go out and purchase a mic if they don't already have one because their online friends all want to chat and he/she cant keep up with the conversations?
This could upset many players...

I think a lot of players would use voice chat over actually typing -TO THEIR FRIENDS-
But to 'strangers' they would still have to type. Example: 'Selling bronze dagger 100m'
Some players may be insecure about the way their voice sounds too.
This could possibly breed a new wave of bullying on RS.
There is a lot to consider... Bob says:

Nice Idea Jagex This Will Be An Awesome Update Due To Its Much Easyer To Use Voice Chat During Pvp, Bosshunting Ect For The Leader To Put Accross Commands More Quickly Rather Than Having To Type Them.
Finally Been Waiting For This One!

Brilliant idea- I've always said about this to friends. Skype can't be used for clans effectively and ventrillo is a pain. Ventrillo can also be used to obtain I.P's, which can be horrible in the wrong hands.
Obviously now you have enabled the filter to be turned off, it is likely this will happen. I would almost certainly rejoin a clan if it happens. foo bar
