RuneScape has always been text-based chat, and should stay that way for several reasons:
- Spamming. There's bound to be someone joining into a cc and screaming down their mic in order to disrupt other players. This could be avoided with clan-rank based allowance.
- The Filter. The "Profanity Filter" is currently optional, and can be on or off as a player pleases. With the voice chat, EVERY form of abusing language, and many things banned by the game and Jagex rules could be possible.
- Waste of time which could be used elsewhere. 10 years with no voice chat, why should it change, especially when it hardly takes any effort to type anything anyway.

I think this is a wonderful idea for people who use Clan Chats for actual clans although, I would definitely put an age cap on it considering there's a lot of creeps out there and naive children.
In respect though, I'm glad you're giving some of us older players some signs of overall improvement. I don't use messangers etc. myself for Runescape although I know many people who do and this is a serious security risk of their accounts as well can cause in game issues with ddoses.

Also, as a clan leader myself, I feel this will be a tool used daily to better command events. W77 Crash Unit Pride!

ok first of all voice chat would be a good idear because typing is hard at boss monsters , it would make buying and selling faster, and better when you just wanna chat to people + in case you other people forgot about the recent update you can turn the filter on/off to stop swearing and Jagex would most likely make that apply to the voice chat so there for makeing the game more enjoyable for every one also you get to talk so you wont be bored... :)

Not gonna lie..
Regardless of whether you make this update or not, I will most likely not stop using the clients I already do. Lets take relay chat that a lot of scapers use currently. I used it before the clan chat, and continued to use it long after it was released. I will probably not use the in game voice chat just because it would mess with my ping, and im already familiar with TS3 and how it effects my computers ping/lag.

Do I really gotta be the one to say it? Please come up with something Blizzard hasn't.

I think it would be a good idea as long as it’s done properly.
The possibility of it being a ‘clan’ only thing would cut back on mass rage spam.
It would need... a report system, some sort of guide lines(rules), some sort of age rule and make sure peoples privacy is safe.

I think that voice chat is a wonderful idea and have wanted it for a while now. I use Skype every day to chat with RS friends. I even use *box live chat to chat with RS friends. It is especially helpful during Dungeoneering or for those of us that are just too lazy to type and enjoy hearing a voice over reading words. :)
I think this option should be free though. For those of us that do use a free voice chat program, we will continue to use the free over one that will cost.
This definitely needs to be a clan/friend only option. There are too many trollers and flamers to make it a public chat option. I saw an earlier comment that stated this would need to be monitored and a report option put into place. I disagree. That would mean recorded conversations and I, for one, do not want my conversations recorded. A report option would not need to be put into place if this was reserved for friends/clan only.
I've talked many friends into downloading Skype to talk. This would eliminate that need.. :P
Lastly, along with everyone else, however you go about doing it..it needs to be "lag-free."

dont agree. i think runecape should remain a more casual game, not 1 people spend their life on. i also know people who put a speaker at their microphone or things like that, and even if its not on purpose id say a good few players listen to music while playing. you would probable have to remove all music tracks from the game aswell because it wouldent go well with chat and by just turning up their volume spammers can be more annoying than they could be with chat. it also nearly is encourages flamming/swearing.

After reading over the thread I notice alot of good input, one of the things being a lag issue. I also notice they're mostly Skype users.
May be good to take that into consideration.
Also, I'm sure Jagex already knows this, but many others may not. when you mute somone, it won't fix the lag, due to the fact your still recieving these sounds, its just not playing them.
For that to be fixed JaGex would need to setup a server sided mute, so it wouldn't send them to you in the first place.
