I just cancelled my recurrent membership because this looks like it's going to pass.
It didn't take long to think whether I wanted to keep playing/paying for this game. I don't care so much about the wilderness one way or the other but when the trade changes came into effect it solved so much of the problems with scamming and botting. It made the community so much nicer to play with because there wasn't this pervasive presensen of people trying to scam you or others and there were no more bots mining up all the resources.
Going back to the old trade system will bring back so much of the undesirable elements that the game had before, I just don't want to play a game where I spend half my time reporting people for various offences in order to try to improve to community.
I know I shouldn't even bother trying to make a better community in an f2p game because there is no way to fucntionally police things when people can just instantly make a new account. The only way to keep people from being horrible to others in a f2p game is to take away their ability to. Jagex is getting rid of that safeguard with this upcoming change, the community will go back to being full of scammers and bots, and that's a community I just don't want to be a part of.

I 100% agree with Volatile One. The free trade system would just bring back more "bots" to fuel the real world trading.
Maybe if the botting system were under control I could see free trade working. There lies the problem, bots aren't under control and bringing free trade back would just make it worse.
I have never commented on Runescapes updates, because for the most part they work out for the better. This update, in my opinion, will be a total disaster and I am seriously considering leaving the game altogether if the update goes through.
@Augurer Ben:"If the only thing that will stop you playing is bots then by god you don't deserve membership. Bots effect you in no way at all, you just think they do."
I pay the monthly fee. I deserve the right to my own opinion. I also ask you how they will not affect me "in no way at all".

I think what these kids (obviously not all kids) don't understand, and never have, is that there was nothing wrong with the wilderness and pk'ing in general, it was the fact that Jagex couldn't stop real World trading with all its associated problems (in game and in real life) with the wilderness operating as it was - it made it a fantastic place for people to drop trade, or arrange deliberate kills etc etc to obtain goods that had been bought with real world cash.
That is why many, like me, have no problem with the wilderness and pk'ing in itself, it is the free trade we don't want, as it just encourages scamming/cheating.
Botting to me is a seperate issue - JAGEX shouldn't claim all will be fine, when they can't control it now - it's cheating, they know it happens, they still can't stop it - many people are botting on their main accounts as no-one gets banned anymore.
I've cancelled a couple of nub accounts I had, but will keep my main as I love the game - but I'm not lining the pockets of a company that is proposing to bring back chinese sweatshops, and 1000's of 'items for cash' websites - which a lot of people used to get in game items, and many more were scammed out of their accounts.
I have to adapt as the pk'ers did - but once it eventually sinks into their brains that they lost the wilderness due to RWT'ing they might understand why I am against free trade/no limit staking etc.

I really do find it funny how people try and use bots to counter the argument to bring the Wilderness and Free Trade back.
I began playing way before the restrictions were put in place in December 2007, and in comparison, there were much less bots around then than there is today.
Fishing and Woodcutting spots are flooded with bots, and do I even need to mention Green Dragons?
In terms of bots the only thing which could change is a reduction on the current Wildy Green Dragons bots, could even cross out the entire problem by allowing equal (to +/- 5) combat PvP in the Chaos Tunnels to reflect how it is underground to the Wildy.
I personally could not really care about Free Trade anymore, I don't like GE but don't visit it enough to really bother me.
However, the Wilderness is the future of the game, so it is an absolute yes.
