For many players, as the vote has made clear, PKing and the Wilderness are an essential part of the game. Although they bring some problems, the benefits are far greater. As many of you know it is extremely frustrating to be unable to give or receive items or cash from friends and I think Jagex could learn from the guys at Blizzard about how to tackle RWT. If Jagex manage to overcome the botting and scamming problems they are sure to be faced with then 90% of players will be made a lot happier and the rest will be virtually unaffected because quests and minigames will simply be relocated.
Personally pking is one of my favourite activities and I stopped playing for a long while because of the update that killed the wildy. The new system is flawed as it punishes you for being successful and makes you waste hours gaining EP.
Some people are scared to return to the days of scamming and luring but Runescape is not a game for young children and I think that if people have worked to make money they should also be smart enough to look after it.
BRING BACK THE WILDY - p.s. please nerf all the new weapons/spells = no skill pking

Dear runescaspe users
I don’t know how many of you remember 2007 that well but back then Runescape was over-run with bots and RWT. so Jagex decided that the fastest way to kill half of these was to get rid of wilderness, free trade and staking in the duel arena. this of course was a very unpopular decision and lost Jagex a lot of players. But despite people threatening to leave Jagex stated that regardless of how much opposition there was they would not be reintroducing the wilderness or free trade
I personaly respect Jagex for this
because instead of seeing the small picture and worrying about the people that might leave and the lost revenue, Jagex could see the big picture and believed this was for the good of the community and was well worth the risk.
Now getting rid of the wilderness and free trade required several updates including the Grand Exchange which was realised on the 26 November 2007 and revolutionised the way trade worked.
Instead of standing around for hours typing offers/ hoping someone would trade with them people could now teleport to Varrock and walk to the grand exchange and place an offer knowing that they would be added to a list and receive there items as soon as enough sellers were found.
This made selling and buying items a lot faster and let people spend more time doing the thing’s they loved.
Between 2007 and the modern day Jagex have also realised many activities where people can attack one another such as Bounty Hunter, Castle Wars , Duel Arena, a player-owned house's combat ring or Dungeon, Stealing Creation, a PvP World or Bounty World, Soul Wars, Clan Wars, Fist of Guthix, and the TzHaar Fight Pits.
Which should give anyone enough playing killing options and helped to earn back some of the people they lost In the past.
continued on next post

Now in 2008 – 2010 after these radical changes people started to notice runescape and Jagex then won the following awards (please not they won none prior to 2007) :-
2009 Duke choice awards Bes* Desktop Game Project
2010 Private Company of the Year" award at the East of England Business Awards
Golden joystick awards
2009 UK developer of the year
2010 UK Developer of the Year
2010 Most popular games :-
3rd RuneScape, released 2001 - 5 million active users. A Java-based MMORPG operated by Jagex Ltd. with over nine million active free accounts. Boasts one million paying customers. Fancy that.
Why am I telling you all this well its quite simple really most people coming back after 3 years out will tell you that jagex lost fans and recognition after getting rid of free trade and the wilderness in 2007 and runescape has never been the same game however my debate is that they kicked out a lot of cheats and gained several awards in this time.
I personaly don’t understand why jagex after 3 years is deciding to give I nand let wilderness come back when it will bring back the bots and real world trading they fought so hard to get rid of in the first place and I believe if these changes take place we will go back to the old days (full of bots and cheats).
Thank-you for taking the time to read this

I feel that this is an excellent opportunity to bring back old players who use to play runescape and make this game an even more "massive" online game. After all, if it wasn't for all the players of runescape, it would be a mere online game like others who have not achieved such recognition. So having even more players play this game would truly give this game even more recognition than it already has.
And like you all stated, no matter how much you all try to stop cheating, people will always find ways around and cheat and it cannot be stopped unfortunately. So why not bring something that was originally meant to be in the game and see if this has some kind of effect. Hopefully less botters. ;)

I believe bringing back the wilderness and free trade is truly a great idea. A few flaws here and there but overall, it is awesome. Jagex should keep the grand exchange exactly the way it is now. That way everyone would know how much each item really is and would not get "scammed", that solves problem one.

To solve problem two, which is the real world trading, maybe Jagex should capitalize on this by making their own service of trading real world cash for gold pieces (maybe not).

Problem number three is botters, the solution to combat botters has always escaped Jagex. I perosnally have no idea as what has to be done to solve this problem but there are botters now just like when the old wilderness was still in effect. Players see them when they walk from Varrock to Edgeville chopping the yew trees and at other various spots. The solution still eludes us all!
P.S.
I apologize in advance if the English is bad, it is not my first language.

YES! It wold be great, if old wildy come back, and free trades come back. I have quit the runescape as many players, becouse the wildy dissapeared. I will start playing runescape again, if i can pk on old wildy :) I have been playing runescape for 8years, i have been pking, staking, merchanting, and it was great feeling. And 2008 update changed many people lifes... wildy dissapeared... then more than 80% players quited runescape. I hope old WILDY comes back AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! ^_^ ^_^ :)

I have been a member for just over 2 years. I am 40 and I play this game 3 to 4 times a week for relaxation after a stressful day. I only understand 1/2 of the things that are described in the changes. I would have to research for quite some time to figure it all out. Frankly, I hate bots as I have spent so much time playing. I was not aware of the magnitude or the quantity of problems that RuneScape had before I joined nor do I want to experience them. If these problems do return and start new grief I will leave RuneScape.
