Bring more prayer pots and less food, but bring Bones-to-Peaches Tabs. Then while you are in the tunnel getting to the chest grab bones. this way you will have food to keep it higher when fighting Verac, and have the extra prayer potions to stay longer!
Another tip is to remember to use your auras :) even the little ones can give you a slight advantage

*Using a black Salamander is very efficient. (harralander tar is required; bring about 500 for less trips to the Grand Exchange.)
*Use the Combat Triangle to your advantage:
-fighting melee: prayer melee, wear mage gear, mage with Salamander
-fighting range: "debatable" use pray or food (rocktail recomended),wear gear with range defence
-fighting mage: Usually easy; Super Restore recomended, wear any dragonhide gear (preferably black)

-The barrows brothers all have a weak magic defence, so I recommend maging them, preferably with magic dart (55 slayer required). I don't recommend using melee, unless your stats are 80-85+
-Don't think you'll make 5m coins with just one trip. Receiving barrows armour is fairly rare. Of course a ring of wealth will increase your chances of getting expensive items.

When fighting Akrisae, use magic as you would against the other melee brothers. When he turns on his prayer, switch to a melee weapon. There are efficient ways to do this though. With the introduction of the Polypore Staff, it is now possible to easily switch between melee and magic without the hassle of selecting your spell. For example, set your melee weapon on accurate and when you deal a set damage and he changes prayer to melee, equip your staff and you will automatically start casting magic. Another weapon which is effective against him is Korasi's sword from The Void Stares Back.
If using Korasi's sword, start out with the magic you've been using against the melee brothers. When he protects from magic, equip Korasi's sword and you will deal melee damage, once he changes to melee, use korasi's special to deal magic, this will most likely force him to switch back to magic which is very convenient for you. Combine this with recover special for overkill. :)

These is my tops, which I use to Barrows brothers:
- Use Ibans Blast or Slayer Dart against Dharok, Verac, Guthan and Torag.
- If you use magic, you want make more longer trips and you have not much runes, for brother, kill creatures of the maze. Killing creatures increases amount of runes in rewards.
- Prayer bonus - equipment is very effective after you have killed at least one brother or you're in the maze. Then you don't need drink doses of prayer potions quickly.
- If you use prayer, save money and train Herblore for making Prayer restoring potions.
- Complete these quest for easier and valuable Barrows trips:
- As A First Resort... (For Salt-water Spa unlimited Run energy)
- The Branches of Darkmeyer (For Drakan's Medallion teleport to Barrows)
- Ritual of the Mahjarrat (For new Barrows brother: Akrisae)
Loristic, the Seeker of Lore, the Archivist of Knowledge, the World Guardian, the Diplomat of Cabbages, and the Regent of Miscellania. May anima mundi be with you and hail Guthix!

One of the quickest ways to access barrows if you haven't completed the branches of darkmeyer is to use the edgeville fairy ring method. This involves a house teleport with an altar and a glory and the completion of fairy tale part II up to the point where you can access the fairy rings. Starting from edgeville, you go to the fairy ring just east. Once you've teleported to Zanaris you use the code "B-K-R" to teleport into the swamps. if you run southeast you will be able to find your way to the boat which will take you right up to barrows. this is faster than using the underground method.

Also, if you plan on doing multiple chest loots in one trip, it is suggested to bring equipment so that you can freeze the barrows brothers and not need to use prayer to defend yourself from them. Entangle and barrage work the best, but of course the lower level spells can come in handy too if you don't have the level for them or do not have access to the ancients spellbook.
The simplest/cheapest setup by far used to be black salamander with d'hide then a helmet and the best gloves and boots you could wear but I think the polypore staff might be more cost efficient and might outclass the salamander in damage per second.

Also, if you forget a spade, just teleport back, no one will give you a spade, they need theirs for barrows and don't bring two.

Today was my first day of barrows so i think my insights can be usefull.
1. Dont drink prayer potions before you KNOW you need them. ie even at 0 prayer dont drink a dose in a new crypt before you check the tomb to see if its the entrance or not. this will greatly enhance your trip time before having to bank.
2. whip/mage(especialy polypore) will greatly reduce your time per crypt which reduces your need for prayer/food. remember the 2 middle mounds are your only non melee type barrows brothers(unless you have the correct quest done for the 7th). this also lets you know what weapon to enter the crypts with for least time spent in each tomb, which lets you again reduce your prayer/food consumption.

If you do not have Drakan's Medallion, having a prayer altar and a Kharyrll (Canifis) teleport in your POH can be a good way to refill prayer points when you need to bank, just bring house teleport tablets! This does require completion of Desert Treasure.
If you do have Drakan's Medallion you can consider teleporting to Darkmeyer between rounds to use the prayer altar there, beware of Vyrewatch! (having the Vyrewatch outfit makes this much easier but requires 4 inventory slots)

After completing the Branches of Darkmeyer quest, Draken's Medallion becomes one of the most useful items to have when doing Barrows runs. Use the Medallion for quick bank trips to Darkmeyer and to recharge your prayer, as well as a quick teleport back to barrows incase of an unexpected Grim Reaper visit. Don't forget your Darkmeyer clothes, however, as the Vyrelords may decide you a tasty lunch.
