1. Do NOT drink prayer potions while traversing the tunnels, unless a brother has appeared.
2. Use a black salamander (on its mage attack) for all of the melee brothers* and your best melee weapon on karil and ahrim.

*Wearing melee armour will not affect how often you hit with the black salamander

#1 - Bring an emergency teleport tablet or runes if you feel unsure!
#2 - Watch your supplies! Use them sparingly and make sure you have enough to continue, if not you can always return to a bank and come back later!!!
^Hope this helps someone :D .

1. Wearing melee armor is generally a good idea for Barrows due to the fact that Verac hits through prayer and 2 or 3 of the other brothers can be tanked. Magic attack bonus isn't important as all of the brothers but Ahrim are extremely weak to magic anyway. You can, for instance, wear full Torag/Dharok and still use a Polypore Staff or Black Salamnder and still hit frequently and hit hard.
2. Use leech or sap curses (along with Turmoil, if you want - and yes, turmoil and leeches/saps work together) to lower the chances of being hit and raise your chances of hitting, especially on the brothers you tank (very helpful on Verac). Also, protect and deflect melee will prevent Verac's normal hits from landing on you (Only his set effect will hit you).

1) Start the Branches of Darkmeyer quest. You don't have to kill the final boss, but complete it enough so you can get to the top level. The drakan medallion is a must for anyone who is low level or doesn't have a lot of money. The drakan medallion will allow you to teleport to an altar to pray after each battle, teleport to a bank to get more food, AND allows you to teleport back to barrows without needing to be recharged (just have to take the darkmeyer disguise with you). This is also helpful to anyone who use prayer pots. The medallion allows you to teleport to barrows and burgh de rot bank. This allows you to bank faster. If using the altar prayer strategy, prosetyte armor or equivalent should be worn to decrease your drain rate (experiment with strength and attack bonus equipment versus prayer equipment to better suit your play)
2) Use protection prayers. Constantly. The barrows brothers hit pretty well, but are all just one combat style. Using protection prayers (or deflect curses) is a must. That means bring prayer restoring items such as falador shield, and prayer pots.
3) When you have Dharok as the final brother: It is helpful to bring prayer potions or a falador shield in case this happens. To defeat Dharok, you HAVE TO HAVE protect melee on. Otherwise you'll die most of the time as he hits extremely high. This is compounded when he is the last brother, as by the time you reach him, your prayer will be at 0 or close to it.
4) Do not kill creatures if you don't have to. To maximize profit, you want to increase the drop rate of barrows items. Killing creatures in the tunnels only increases the drop of the runes, bolts, and other miscellaneous rewards. So, to capitalize your profit/hr, kill them when you have to, otherwise leave them alone. The more rounds of barrows you complete the better the odds you'll get a barrows item/hr.

most efficient inventory for me is between 8-14 prayer pots void melee gear, dfs for mage defence also magic is very useful for dharoks, veracs, guthans, and torags. for food you should bring to be safe 4-6 sharks varies... and do not under-estimate karils because he does hit very high if you do not protect from range so make sure to always use prayer and prayer boosting armour if possible because prayer is what makes for better trips and you won't have to bank as much in between= more time at barrows!

Barrows Tips:
When doing barrows, kill the strongest brothers first. ^_^ This will help you avoid dying due to lack of prayer for a difficult brother. (bring a spare prayer pot too)
Remember to bring an instant teleport (teleport tablets) - this could mean the difference between life and death. O_o e.g. Fighting a barrows brother and running out of health; or looting the barrows chest and dying before reaching the exit (home teleport won't work due to damage)
~Small tip: Always pray when you're fighting Dharok, he hits too hard - and can kill maxed players easily.
Trivia: such a large amount of players have forgotten to bring a spade to the barrows - that some low levels have decided to go to the barrows, and "sell spades".
Most players didn't bring gold to the barrows, and usually traded prayer potions - making a hefty profit for a spade.

Here is my complete guide and tips in general as well.
I use full mage void with a Staff of light and fire wave.
I carry Drakens Madalleon for teleportation to the barrows and to Burgh de Rott for quick banking between runs.
I carry excatly eight prayer potions and four monkfish and its possible for me to do two maybe three runs per invatory.
For stat boosting a carry one regular magic potion and one defence potion.
For fighting Verac, i dont bother with protect from melee... instead i use the Staff of light special to reduce melee and i use the 15% magic boosting prayer from the regular prayer book which requires i beleive 45 prayer to use. It uses more prayer, but it boosts your magic and its slightly quicker kills. During the fight i may eat one piece of food.
For fighting Dharok, i just use protect from melee, and keep a very sharp eye on prayer. I try at all times to get mine above 300. I dont ever like to run the risk of a prayer drop and then a one hit kill from Dharok.
For fighting Guthan and Torag i use protect from melee and they are quick to kill and not difficult at all.
For fighting Ahrim, I carry a void melee helm and an unaffected Abyssal Whip in my pack and i switch to using Protect from Magic and if i can afford the prayer, i will use Chivarly, but thats a quick prayer drain. Ahrim is easy if you use melee.
For fighting Karil, i will also use melee, but i also make sure to keep prayer reasonable so he doesent hit me. He will hit fairly often with fair numbers with void, but he is rather easy to kill.
For the tunnel at the end, i just keep sharp eye out on the brothers, keep my quick prayers set accordingly, and i scroll the camera down to where i can use my mouse to scout out and see which door i can open before i have to wander to every room. Its a nice navigational trick that speeds up my runs immensly.
*Wear a Ring of Wealth*
Here are my stats at the time of this writting
86 Attack
89 Strength
85 Defence
65 Prayer
78 Magic
87 Constitution
Blacktop Ace
Empire of Zaros Imperium

If you can afford it a guthans set can save those inventory slots by allowing you to heal up on monsters in the maze and on karil whilst praying range (use stab). Also bringing a salamander allows you to use magic on the 4 melee bosses whilst no need to change armour and range on ahrim all of which are effective. My prefered order is dh(pray melee)!!,verac(pray melee,he will still hurt you a little),karil(guthans set heals you from verac) then i go ahrim (either remove guthans or pray mage) then torag then guthan (probably don't need pray up to you) and ofc if your new to barrows, always bring a 1click teleport!!
happy new years guys
(ps cavefish often are cheaper than sharks heal the same and give a +2 stat boost!!!)
