The book was very good. You develop emotional attachments to the characters which are then manipulated by the storyline.
I enjoy reading many types of books, with fantasy being my primary focus. Robert Jordan, Philip Jose Farmer, J.R.R. Tolkein, and C.S. Lewis are among my most repeatedly read authors. Betrayal at Falador has joined my repeat-read bookshelf time and time again.
One of the interesting parts about the book is the geography. It follows the layout of the Runescape map fairly closely (in location rather than scale) so that experienced Runescapers know just where everything is without needing an illustrated map to aid in visualization.
I lent my book to a friend of mine who has never played Runescape. She developed an immediate desire to play the game. She is a more seasoned and varied reader than myself, and she enjoyed it even more than I did (and since I enjoyed it immensely, that's saying something).
