"If you were to give one piece of advise to Runescape writers here on the forums, what would it be?"

i would always advise people to write if they enjoy it. I would also say that nothing you ever write is wasted, and that you should not be afraid to go back and 'tear the guts' out of your work and re-edit it sometime later on. I was for many years fearful of this but now I see it as a kind of 'alternative history' for my characters, a sort of 'what it?' scenario. Always worth doing, though always the hardest thing to do and because it is it is the most valuable.

"In what way, if any, do you think that it is apparent for non-runescapers that the book is based on an mmo?"

The novel is very deliberately written so anyone can enjoy it without ever having played RuneScape. However it will of course appeal primarily to the RuneScape fan base but I hope we can expand it further into the fantasy buying public at large!

"You have a very unique style of writing that made Betrayal at Falador easy reading, yet it did*’t feel like a book aimed at youngsters. How difficult was it to find the right balance or is this your own natural writing style? "

Good question. I just had to make sure the book was accessible to the younger fans and yet ambiguous enough in certain scenes so as not to put them off.

"3. What parts of the game will you be incorperating in the sequel, like how there was tears of Guthix in the first?"

There are certainly elements involved in the sequel. The trick is not to fill the novel up with them but to 'give the reader what they want' in a dip-feed process. I will let you speculate on what is to come in Varrock and Morytania however. . .

"Is there a reason that strong equipment is not used? If so, what is it? If not, could you please add melee equipment such as dragon/godswords/rune, etc. to your next book?"

Very much so. Did you start off with a rune sword or a dragon axe? Kara and her friends will have to build up their experience before getting their hands on some of the more powerful items!

"As an aspiring author, I would like to ask Mr. Church if he prefers energy drinks to sugar-laden sweets - for those late nights chiseling at the marble block that is a story."

I'm more of a chocoholic when it comes to the long hours I am afraid - but that's not advice I would encourage you to take. Eat your greens!

Sir Jocob30:

"4) How was it writing your newest novel Return to Canifis?"

Really very pleased to hear you have started reading other books due to your interest in Betrayal. Very gratifying indeed. Thank you.

Return to Canifis has been entirely reworked to narrow down the point of views of the characters so we get to know them very well. I think it has made for a better novel than the first draft which basically had too much going on in it. It was a tough process restarting it but a worth while one.
