Hi guys, great work so far, I'm really looking forward to both these updates. Do you think it would be possible to release blog posts about how certain things are incorporated into html5?(code wise). A company called Wolfire occasionally releases blogposts about the technologies they are using and how efficient they are for what they want to achieve in their games. As someone who is studying to become a game developer this stuff really interests me, especially since it's related to my favourite game(RS)! I'm sure that even those who don't have much knowledge in this subject may find it interesting.

Thanks guys!

It's a matter of time really. We have to focus our time on the RS3 release at the moment, but I'd love to write some blog posts to give some information back to the HTML5 dev community that have helped us make the client possible. We will have to see how things pan out post-launch.

hello jagex i really want to know if my laptop can handle the game now
its and 4 year old asus g50v
specs:
graphics card: nvidia geforce 9700m gt
processor: intel core2 duo t9400 @ 2,53ghz 2,53ghz
ram: 4gb ram (3gb can be used)
hdd: 5400 rmp

That laptop is on the lower end of what we're targeting with HTML5. You may get better performance on the Java client at the moment.

NIS: Will we be able to share our setups between players within the game? Or would there be like a forum for it? If this would even be possible that is.

You won't be able to share setups/templates right from the start, but we want to look at starting off with competitions, where players can submit the best and coolest setups and Jagex will consider the best ones to be provided through the game as templates.

One thing to note though, that I feel is really neat:
The templates are stored on the server, so when you got a really nifty setup and save it, it will also be available on any other PC you might play on!

Seeing as HTML already has such great graphics will there be more possibility than java to improve graphics even further?

That's right, yes. HTML5 is built on a modern graphics architecture so it is much easier for us to keep it up to date in the future. With the release of future web 3D graphics standards (WebGL2 and OpenGL ES3) this year we will be able to add new features and improve performance further.

Are HTML5 and the NIS all that you are doing for RS3, or will there be other updates with it? If so, what updates can we expect?

We have plenty more in stock, but I can't really talk much about details, I can only say it will be exciting great new content! ;)

On the one hand, I like the new brightness in the game because the lighting contrast is higher, but some things, including much of our Avatar and clothing, are much too bright. Will this be fixed?

(had to log in to remember the things I was having questions about)

Will the item icons in the bank and inventory be restored to their previous colors?

We've already dimmed down the player and NPC lighting to match the Java client. If you don't think it matches still, please send in a bug report with what you're wearing and where you are.

We'll be tweaking the lighting settings for the inventory objects when we can, the settings there are not final.

HTML 5

1.) Currently I’m under the impression that HTML 5 will negatively affect bots in some ways. Can you give a little more information about this, but in a way which does not give any help to the bot developers? Will we notice significant differences in their numbers in game?

2.) Could writing the game for both HTML 5 and Java affect how soon we get updates? Would we still be getting the same frequency and quality of updates (if not, higher quality), what with HTML 5 now being coded for in addition to Java?

New Interface

1.) Will we be able to have counters on our action bars for consumables that have been put on there, such as food, potions etc?

2.) How do you intend the number of action bars to work for free players and members? In the current, live game, only action bar number 1 can be used in an F2P world, regardless of whether or not you’re a member. As a member, you have access to more bars on member’s worlds. It would be nice to be able to select a fixed action bar other than bar 1 for use on an F2P world and not be able to switch it until you go back to a P2P world.

That way members aren’t restricted to having to alter their primary bar (#1) when on an F2P world and can choose which bar number to keep dedicated to F2P only. This is easier than having to edit bar #1 when you switch between worlds and want to engage in different activities (e.g. F2P combat).

3.) Can you let us know if you will be inviting additional players to the alpha and beta in batches, or based on individual cases over time?

General Beta + Alpha Process Questions

1.) Is it possible to be invited to both testing opportunities before they go live to all members?

2.) How will you be selecting additional players to participate in the alpha and beta?

3.) Can you send both e-mails and inbox messages to people who get selected for early testing before it opens to all members? Inbox messages would be nice.

HTML5
1. We are not targeting bots with the HTML5 release though it may have some side effects that will impact them

2. The game content is scripted in a way that it is read by both the Java client and the HTML5 client without significant differences. In that way while there may be some impact in the time it takes us to develop content it should be negligible

New Interface
I'll do my best to address these in Mod_Zs absense
1. Possibly
2. This is not something we can address currently
3. We will invite players in batches

General
1. If you have registered for the test program then there is a chance
2. We look at machine specs, playtime and level distributions to get a good spread of experience
3. We will be sending both types so yes!

This might be a little more technical, but I have an Ipad 2 with a bluetooth apple keyboard that I'll be using to play the html5 version once it's out (something I've wanted to do since I bought the Ipad).

Some programs do not recognize that I have a keyboard attached, and instead try to force the on screen keyboard to pop up. Will the new HTML5 version have any special settings for users like me/an app I can download to use on the ipad?

Thanks!

Unfortunately the HTML5 client won't work on iOS due to Apple's developer policies, sorry :( We hope they change their minds in the future, but for now, it's out of our hands.

Regarding your specific question, as far as we are aware, browsers don't have very good handling for soft vs. hard keyboards at the moment, this is something we're talking to Google about.

Maybe my question is trivial but i must ask. What must i do to get New Interface Alpha access? I had a RS3 Beta and i sent some reports, in other words i helped a little.
I care about New Interface so i asking.

There is nothing you need to do for now. Just because you did not get selected in the initial batch, it does not mean you never will.
We are aiming at gradually opening it up to more people over time!

When will additional graphics options be added to the beta? So far, we've been unable to adjust the zoom distance which makes certain aspects of gameplay difficult.

This will happen when the new camera system is integrated into the live game. I don't have an exact date for when this will be at the moment, but it will be done before launch.
