Ballad of Blade and Beast

After the revelations about Maximus were revealed, the group decided to work in secret to unmask the sinister clergyman to the people by uncovering his agenda. To remain in his good graces, they continued to help him by dealing with some bandits that had been raiding the city's farmlands for food. The adventurers set out to meet with the Head Farmer Demeter, accompanied by Captain Ani, to learn what they could of these bandits. Through Demeter and Ani's information the party learned that the bandits were led by a wolfman named Lupin McBurn who seemed to prefer fighting others with his fists. They also discovered that he had sent his second in command, Riza, to spy on the farms, as the party discovered when they spotted the birdperson flying above the area. Despite the efforts to chase this scout they were unable to capture her and instead opted to lay a trap for the bandits.

They managed to pinpoint the next target for the bandits and laid in wait for the ner-do-wells arrival, only for a single figure to approach the farm: Lupin McBurn himself. Thanks to his boisterous taunts he lured the party out one by one to engage him in battle, however one member was able to remain hidden and found Riza watching over her leader. After a brief confrontation, the fighting was put to an end and the group was able to find a peaceful (albeit a little roughed up) resolution to the bandit raids. The party learned that the bandits only stole the food to feed their people, as their mountain-based crops had been suffer as of late. Unbeknowst to the bandits the cause was the Shadow Anima released during the run up to the Elder God Wars. The group sent them back home with the promise to stop Maximus, who may have been responsible for the denial of aid to the bandit group. They also made contact with Riza's Ex, Kore, who was the Head Farmer's daughter to try and organize food shipments to help feed them in the interim.

After reporting to Captain Ani, the adventurers enjoyed a good nights rest. Sadly it was interrupted by the sounds of a crowd moving at a sudden pace. While they initial thought Maximus may have uncovered their plot, it was instead knights and medics rushing to the port which had been destroyed. While the group made their way there, a group of mysterious figures in white were spotted only to suddenly vanish in the next moment. After arriving in the port they learned from Maximus that it had been destroyed over night, leaving the group stranded for the time being. Maximus offered to extend the party's stay until the ships and dock were repaired as well as additional work to do in the coming days.

Cloak and Ceremonial dagger

While investigating the mysterious figures on one of the roofs, the group uncovered a dark truth about the city: a cult of assassins called the Hands of Tragedy worship the Tragedian by committing murders in their name. To make matters worse, they kidnapped children to increase their numbers. Having uncovered evidence that the building would be the target of one such kidnapping, the adventurers set off to explore the mines under the city for the cultists. On advice from an ally, they sought out a mysterious demon who lurked within the tunnels. This demon seemed to be expecting their arrival and came to meet them. introducing himself as Cytax. He agreed to help the group if they were willing to see something he had discovered, which they agreed to do.

Unfortunately, his discovery turned out to be the petrified remains of semi-divine bat and butterfly surrounded by bizarre mismatched shapes. Cytax found such things amusing and reveled in the questions their presence here incurred. After providing some vague and ominous answers to the group's questions he left for them to deal with an arriving assassin. Despite their best efforts, the assassin refused to cooperate with the group and instead chose to take his own life. After interrogating the corpse, they returned to the surface to report their findings to the Knights who would discuss these revelations with their superiors. The party decided to retire for the day having done what they could to help. Meanwhile, shadowy figures have begun to plot and conspire behind the scenes as things begin to take a turn.

Meanwhile, one of the party members had tried to test the limit of their patron power, but a miscalculation had made the patron gain control over her body, with plans on ensuring she grows stronger.

Just Deserts - Part 1

Now that their investigation into the Hands of Tragedy was finished, the group was able to rest and prepare for an expedition into the desert to track down the rogue knight Levon. Maximus met with them that morning to provide the details on Levon, such as his departure from the city after stealing forbidden texts from the Archive. Maximus wanted them to deal with Levon as they saw fit, though seemed to be inclined to have him killed, and the texts destroyed to prevent others from seeking it later. He also arranged a means of transport to take them to the last known location Levon was seen at: a village in the desert known as Runespring.

The group went to the city gates to meet with the mechmer Polnareff who would escort them to Runespring and back. The mechanized cart made the journey quick, with only a brief stop to rest for the night where the bulk of the party had a bizarre dream. Upon arriving in Runespring they noticed a wizard among the various mages, who provided information and a means to teleport to Ardougne. While this was happening, a mysterious figure was spotted observing the group. Before they could investigate this further the mayor of the village invited them into his home, where Dagda was hiding. He provided information that would help make speaking with Levon easier. When they were finished speaking with Dagda, the party went to investigate the mysterious figure who was waiting for them. He revealed himself to be an agent of the Polytheist known as Number 4, but gave the stage name of Hugh Darrow. Darrow offered his help to the adventurers should they continue to oppose Maximus. With nothing further to do in Runespring, they set out for the nearby mountain where Levon was supposed to be hiding.

Return to Destination; Zeah

Upon the two-way split, the group diverged their path, with one faction remaining in the newly discovered land of Aniagert while the other pressed forward on their journey toward Zeah. Amidst this divergence, Captain Kenway, entrusted with guiding the voyagers, issued a surprising command, instructing his first mate to activate the ship's advanced engine, propelling them with unexpected speed. The group soon realized Kenway's allegiance to the Godless faction, granting them access to this extraordinary engine for expedited travel and escapes.

The exhilarating breeze whistled past, and the group quickly adapted to the newfound velocity, relishing the haste of their journey. Days later, emerging from below deck, they anticipated nearing Zeah, only to spot a ship sailing nearby. To their astonishment, it was helmed by the infamous Roderick Blackthorn of the Crimson Corsairs, seeking to reclaim the treasure Kenway had uncovered—the formidable artifact known as The Horn.

Stunned by this revelation, the group questioned Kenway about how he acquired The Horn. Tensions escalated when a member of Roderick's crew recognized the group from a wanted poster, prompting Roderick to propose a deal to Kenway: surrender the group, and he'd disregard The Horn. However, Kenway staunchly refused, triggering a fierce battle.

Undeterred, the group fought valiantly, enduring the onslaught and retaliating with unwavering determination. They decimated the opposing crew, allowing them to focus their efforts on Captain Roderick Blackthorn. Following a grueling battle, the group emerged victorious, overcoming the Crimson Captain and his crew.

In the aftermath, Captain Kenway directed his crew to salvage the defeated ship for loot, generously sharing a portion with the group as a token of gratitude for their assistance in the fight against the pirates. The group, though vigilant, took a moment to recover, savoring the peaceful ocean voyage, healing, and honing their skills for the adventures that awaited them, whether in the uncharted territories of Aniagert or the familiar yet perilous lands of Zeah.

Intrigue of the Shadowed Mines: Unveiling Secrets in Great Kourend

After several weeks of traversing the sea, our group at last made landfall in Great Kourend. As the ship approached the port, Zaramoth caught sight of a familiar figure in blue robes—the same man they had seen in Keldagrim's cave with the Chaos Dwarves. Once the ship was docked, the group set out to search for him, only to lose him amidst the bustling crowd. Realizing their efforts were in vain, Gwyn suggested seeking out an old friend, Krystalian, a member of the Defenders of Gielinor. With the assistance of a rookie guard, the group managed to find their way to the Arceuus House and locate Krystalian in the library. It was here that they discovered Marwynn, had been shadowing their group for some unknown reason.

In conversation with Krystalian, they learned of the Chaos Dwarves and Druids invading a mine within Lovakengj. Additionally, they found out that Climdu, another member of the Defenders, was present in Great Kourend.

Following their discussion with Krystalian, the group set off for Lovakengj, receiving directions to Lady Vulcana, the head of the Lovakengj house. Through her, they gathered crucial information: the invaders had attacked and seized mines, and a few weeks ago, had taken over another. Determined to uncover the reasons behind this incursion into Great Kourend, the group decided to help. They attempted to stealthily infiltrate the first mining site, but unfortunately, one of their members, Tito, was apprehended by the guards. While Tito tried to deceive them into believing he was alone, the rest of the group managed to remain hidden and out of sight. Tito was escorted to their leader, who surprisingly turned out to be Climdu. Perplexed by her presence and leadership role, the group was left in a state of confusion, eagerly awaiting the revelations that the next week would undoubtedly unveil!

As Climdu surveyed her surroundings, she deftly manipulated the memories of both Chaos Druids and Dwarves, convincingly portraying herself as a double agent. This ruse successfully lured the Chaos group into searching for the rest of the party. Once safely ensconced within the tent, Gwyn relayed the reasons for their delay, also shedding light on Alevian's uncertain fate. In response, Climdu shared the intel she had gathered about the dwindling numbers within the Chaos Group over the past week.

Moreover, Climdu divulged that their adversaries were in the process of constructing a mysterious device. Eugene speculated that it might be akin to the machine encountered in Keldagrim, one that transformed Dwarves into Chaos Dwarves. Based on this theory, he proposed a plan to reverse the machine's teleportation capabilities. Climdu approved the plan and offered to teleport them to the Abyss.

With the strategy in place, the group rallied and made their way to the next campsite. There, they beheld the enigmatic machine and began modifying its teleportation functionality. Upon completion, the group narrowly escaped, activating the machine and banishing all the Chaos Dwarves into the Abyss. Hobrack, a Defender accompanying Climdu, disclosed that the remaining Chaos Dwarves and Druids had been dispatched to Valamore to confront the Imcando Dwarves residing there.

Following Climdu and Hobrack's departure, the group decided to update Lady Vulcana Lovakengj on their quest and inquire about the whereabouts of the Imcando Dwarves. Lady Vulcana revealed that they were located somewhere in Avium Savannah, granting them a free train ride to Valamore. During the train journey, they marveled at the beauty of Great Kourend and traversed the Kebob Lowland, eventually passing through the mountains of Valamore and catching sight of the capital city, Civitas illa Fortis.

Upon arriving outside the city at the Outer Fortis, they discovered that the city's inhabitants spoke an unfamiliar language. Seeking directions, Gwyn approached a farmer, who, though not fluent in Common, managed to guide them. However, Eugene unwittingly alarmed the farmer with a thumbs-up gesture. After acquiring a map from the general store, the group was approached by guards conversing in their native tongue, leaving the narrative paused at this intriguing juncture.

With Eugene's detailed explanation to the guard, expressing their lack of awareness regarding the cultural significance of a particular gesture, the guard was understanding and let them off with a warning. The group was immensely grateful for the guard's understanding and continued their journey into the desert, heading towards Avium Savannah in the hopes of finding an underground entrance to the Imcando dwarves' settlement.

As they traversed the desert for hours, skillfully evading a treacherous quicksand pit, they were suddenly engulfed by a surprise sandstorm. Despite the challenging conditions, the group managed to seek shelter and wait for the storm to pass. During this respite, they engaged in conversation, discussing their plans for finding the settlement and analyzing a wanted poster they had come across. The discussion centered on the bounties, particularly noting that the Icyene among them were marked for death, while their wizard companion, Marwynn, was to be captured alive. Intriguingly, they speculated about potential motives behind this peculiar differentiation, considering the possibility of an admirer or an individual seeking a personal vendetta against Marwynn.

Once the sandstorm subsided, the group resumed their journey. After about an hour, they faced an ambush by a formidable Desert Strykewyrm, posing a significant threat. In a critical moment, Eugene's quick observation and strategic thinking came to the rescue. He urged everyone to remain perfectly still, deducing that the creature relied on sensing vibrations—a theory that proved accurate. The partially blind creature grew confused in the absence of movement, opting to retreat and burrow back into the ground, patiently waiting for any signs of activity. Utilizing their flight capabilities, including Eugene's wingsuit and the abilities of the Icyene members Zaramoth and Syrene, they rescued those stranded on the ground and swiftly escaped the area.
