It is a legitimate waste of time to continue putting effort into arguing this. People will approve and disapprove of Ridaku's ownership of the thread, as they did with his predecessor.

Instead of spending energy into voicing your disapproval of him, how about letting him finish what he wants to change, see how people react to that, and give feedback or pitch ideas that might improve the guide? I doubt he'll ignore us and only put what he sees fit; and if so it'll be simple to get upset about that .

As for my example a few posts back, that was the only big divide already on the forums. Was safer than opening a new wound here.

Here's how I see it. When Faey took over the thread, there was a call for a vote because the choice was viewed as poor and Faey had a record of trolling the community. The mods ignored this and Faey proceeded to use the thread to troll the community.

Giving the thread to someone who was trying to troll the community was dumb. Leaving the decision of succession to the person who was actively trying to troll the community is dumb.

Did you even read the context of those comments? No? Okay, let me break it down for you:

The current author of the RP guide - like many players before and alongside them - feel this community no longer suffices to call itself a community. Reasons include obvious vitriol and hate (which this individual has endured excessive amounts of and a clear lack of singular communal interaction/participation - the "community' is a bunch of splinter interests in other words.

Faey, then, said those things in the context that they wished the world and forums were deleted so you guys could look beyond your own noses and stop being the very same stand-offish, closed-minded prudes you're being right now. Always with an agenda and never with the real goal of actually dropping age-old pretences to just get along.

Consider this an extension of my last response above, but:

Have you even considered the context of what has led this individual to their view? Because I have. I remember Faey from the Zamorakian Brigade. I remember Faey making an earnest effort to leave that and participate in the roleplay community - at first as trying to introduce an alternative form of roleplay to co-exist or co-participate (nothing wrong there - it just wasn't really looked on fondly), then actually joining W42's system and rules only to receive the same, extreme vitriol and hate that Daku did for doing something that wasn't the mainstream within the community.

Who was really trolling who, then?

Obviously Faey, like myself, like anybody who's been here awhile, is not with a clean record. We've all done less than favorable things or said less than favorable things about one another. But the difference is Faey actually attempted to learn and change - many of you still refuse to and you find a way to deflect the blame to anybody whose views differ.

I remember when Faey was given the guide - and started out with an earnest wish to help the community before being trolled, flamed, and receiving more hate speech/vitriol that even extended beyond RP and attacked Faey's identity.

Can you BLAME them for feeling this way about the community? Absolutely not. The community's trashy attitude towards being different and trying another angle - actively attacking it - is to blame.

Call me a grumpy old man or someone out of touch with the community, but this case is harkening back to a past that I was very much present for and a part of. And the way some of you who were around then are handling it is incredibly ignorant of the context in which this thread was made - both its actual purpose of handing RiDaku the guide and its unintended purpose of speaking about the state of the community or lack thereof.

If you feel so distressed about this hand off, do as Gale said. Work with the guide owner and simmer down. I would sooner trust RiDaku with it than pretty much anybody who's voiced opposition, if only because Daku has made it clear time and again that his primary interest is the community's success.

I may not speak with all of you, but I do speak with Daku outside of this game and consider him a good friend. And knowing his passions for the community - often clashing with my disgruntled, apathetic view towards it - I'm confident he cares to do more meaningful good with it than most anybody I've seen object to it.
