Most peoples ideals don't align exactly with anyone else. The ultimate point of Nat's post is still valid. Not everyone will agree.
I don't believe anyone here has the community in mind with this. Not when majority of them are currently involved in a HUGE schism in the community IN THE FIRST PLACE. When that is no longer the case, I will happily eat those words without a second thought.
Until then, we should quit pretending it's
worry for the community
and just say we're upset because we want someone who will agree with our ideals and no one elses.
You're saying it as if the opinions of what
NEED
to be on a guide are going to hugely differ depending on what side of the rift the members of the community sit on. People will agree or disagree on different things regarding this guide, whether their alignment of the community split varies or not. If people will be so petty as to scald an idea or proposal based on how they feel about the person presenting said idea, then that is pathetic in and of itself.
I'm confused with this. Because that is what I'm seeing everyone doing with the thread and RiDaku. Getting upset that he is the new admin to it because they do not like him. I never once brought up what people feel need to be in the thread and how it will differ from person to person, I did bring up that peoples views are going to differ of WHO should be in control of the thread.
I also said when it comes to content, we should make our voices heard and discuss with RiDaku of what should be in there.
Also, I sure as heck didn't see any of you jumping at the chops to fix the guide previously if it was such a huge shit show. But suddenly it was an issue before and so much so that we claim it was utter crap and should dismiss the authors opinion of who should take over because of it.
Yeah, this would have been a nice farewell post if you didn't try your damndest to shit on 42.
Given how clear you've made your attitude, your wishes for passing on the guide shouldn't be considered valid, and it should be passed on to someone whom the community can support and get behind.
.... aaaaand here's the shameless plug/political nonsense I was expecting. Surprised it took until page two. I mean, they're right - why do you think so many left? Yes, partially because some got too busy to spend time here. But a lot of people moved on simply because this community became too toxic and cyclical to just enjoy anymore if you cared for any real involvement - I'm one of the people who left for both reasons. Stop being a ninny about your personal agenda/wolf in sheep's clothing of promoting meaningful change and actually do something about it if you care so much. Make a new guide if you think someone else can do better. Let the community decide by merit of what
is
given to them, not what political finger pointing you can do about what
should be
given to them.
Daku and literally anybody else who has stated it is correct - the tradition of selecting an inheritor of the guide has existed for about as long as this community. People may have had reservations of Faey's inheritance, but it transpired and lead to this point did it not?
Moreover, you all still used/abided by it rather than protested during its entire life span, no?
I frankly think you're silly and cannot see beyond your own nose if, this many years into belonging to this community, the best you can come up with is "your wish shouldn't be considered valid".
It proves not everybody learns and broadens the scope of cooperation, I suppose.

They very well could. In 2012/2013, the ideas of killing characters in public requiring consent as either a
rule
or a
courtesy
was a hot topic that could have altered the guide and the entire course of RP if one of two "sides" got their way in an opportune moment.
Likewise for grounds to acknowledge/disacknowledge people/groups.
All of these topics conveniently divide along eerily similar lines of two clashing interest groups, and the moment one group gets the political/social upper hand in this community, the others are essentially told to do as they're told or leave.
One can only wonder why so many are gone as this mentality has ingrained itself more and more.
If the community's still such a shambled mess that its disparagingly recognises two different Ardougnes as public, why should it be voting on something as uniform as an RP guide/unofficial rule book?
Why does one even exist at this rate, to take it a step further and provoke some thought?
That was my second option. Silently getting it locked and unpinned. However, I thought that forum moderators would in fact continue to uphold tradition and force me to pick the next holder or keep it.
It may as well be gone at this point, along with the other pinned thread.
Save yourself.
Savior self.

Look who came back from the dead, it's Spartae. Or, since by any other name he's just as sweet, Freddy and Jason. (B-Because he comes back from the dead. Ehhh?)
The point about getting a political/social leg-up on the other side of the community is a very real one. I'm hoping to keep all forms of bias and all that garbage off the Guide. I've removed references to off-game things, I'm in the process of removing any snide comments or opinionated pieces (or clearly biased pieces, like praising one form or style over another), and then I'll probably be posting my suggested revisions to this thread or a separate one from the Guide thread (so people will actually check it, I know how infamous we are with ignoring the stickied threads if we don't need them right then) to see if I should make the change. If people are so twisted up over what the thread holds, then we should see a lot of the suggestions pass with flying colors.
If not.. well, we know where the problem lies, and it isn't with the guide like some people are saying, but instead prejudice against a simple name up in a sticky.

They think they are "the many", and I "the few". They think this gives them the right to walk over me.
If such a portion of the community is so against Daku being the thread holder, what if someone got an Fmod to allow another RP guide to be stickied at the same time as Daku's?
I'm not advocating for this, but I'm just curious if that could happen
literally why though. Like, that is the most ridiculous idea. "Just have two rps and let people choose" is already a bad idea, don't "Just have two guides!". Blox, don't. Oh my god don't. LMAO
