I've binged all 3 seasons of
The Orville
(2017-2022) over the last few days.
Initially clearly intended to be a fun take-off of Star Trek as much as anything else, but the humour - while always present - takes second place in seasons 2 & 3. Like the original Star Trek, all three seasons manage to cover some fairly serious social issues as well - here ranging from gender assignment and inter-racial (inter-species) dating to ingrained prejudice, slavery, and the moral arguments surrounding genocide.
The cast are all decent, and the scripts are good - and in one or two places, outstanding. There are also appearances by a lot of surprisingly big names, including Liam Neeson, Charlize Theron, and Dolly Parton (!), with regular supporting appearances by the likes of Ted Danson and Kelly Hu as well. The special effects can be a little cheesy (possibly deliberately), but get better as the show goes on.
All in all, a solid 8/10.
