I remember seeing the news about overflow mortuaries in refrigerated vans in cities with a huge number of cases. Bodies weren't littering the streets but without those vans?..... I also saw pics of a mass grave. So yes, the experts were correct in that without action there would have been a lot more people dying.
Of course a lot has been learnt about the virus and how to treat it in the past several months. In the early days
no-one
knew much, if anything, about it. What we know now should not be used to berate those in charge for not knowing it at the start of the year.
I don't remember any "experts" making it out to be as bad as the black plague. Are you confusing medical professionals with alarmists?

Idk too much about what other countries are doing but here we seem to lurch from one debacle to another almost daily.
The "world-beating" tracing system is in disarray (yet again) with reports that 15,000 cases were 'lost' for a week before being dealt with, local and national restrictions so complicated that no one seems to have a clue what and where they are in force, rumours of mass vaccination being available by Easter ..... yahdey-yah.
Apparently infection rates here are now higher than at the peak of the first wave and there's talk of closing Pubs and other hospitality venues again (depending on media source).
Yeah, we were so close to getting our daily cases down to single digits, but now we're back up to almost 300 daily cases.

Over 1,100 new cases in Quebec just yesterday alone, very glad I moved back East when I did... things seem to be seriously ramping up there now...

It turns out the reason they were lost is that the Excel spreadsheet they were using exceeded the maximum number of columns. They weren't just relying on a single Excel spreadsheet, they were using an old version. It sounds like a joke doesn't it.
I would link an article but its too depressing to read any more.
Still, bonus points for thinking outside the box.
But a bit closer to the box may have been better in this case.

It would appear so. Incredibly swift for an obese and elderly person.
Proof positive that Americans need not be afraid of Covid and that their illustrious Leader is indestructable?
Donald Trump is, in fact, Captain Scarlet.
A sobering thought.
On the plus side, he is well placed to defend us against the Mysterons.
Given how the year has gone so far, I wouldn't bet against a Mysteron invasion.
Indeed - now he has recovered* he has more experience than anyone else. Of course the belief that one has it also makes it fine to go for a joyride in a hermetically sealed car. Everyone totally has access to expensive cocktails of strong drugs to help ease the effects, too.
*Disclaimer: may not actually have COVID-19.
What an insult to the hundreds of thousands who have lost their lives to this disease.
