Cigarettes are still on the shelves.

You want masks to be mandated, take the cigarettes off the shelves first which dramatically lower a person's immune system.

I'll just repeat what I said earlier: Just because people die from other things doesn't make it ok to ignore Covid regulations & guidelines.

If you follow that logic you'd stop people driving cars, as deaths involving cars are in the millions each year.

Instead there are things you can do to help prevent more car deaths - speed limits, seat belts, airbags etc.... and there are things you can do to help your chances of dying from Covid and infecting others. But I've said that multiple times already, as have others.

If someone refused to wear a seat belt you'd quite rightly label them as selfish, irresponsible fools... and the same argument applies to masks.

You can quote all the figures you like about people dying from other causes, but the fact remains that Covid deaths can be reduced by the simple action of wearing a mask.

It's a tiny piece of cloth, it's hardly draconian.
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?

Livelihoods have not been removed in the vast, vast majority of cases. Retail is still operating, transport, construction, teaching, policing, healthcare, the entertainment industry, offices and home working etc. etc. - all still functioning and paying their staff.
Not that I disagree, but where I am a whole bunch of shops are boarded up and homelessness has gone through the roof.
It will take a while for us to fully appreciate the impact this has had, right or wrong.

There aren't any shops where I live. However, in my local town there have been shops boarded up for a number of years where the chains moved out (M&S and the like) and premises have remained empty or turned into Pound Shops, or Charity shops. This was all happening anyway, all over the UK. I think it'd be difficult to say categorically this has significantly escalated solely due to Covid.

Pubs and restaurants went into a nose-dive when the No Smoking rules came in years ago with many (Pubs especially) closing down. It's continued, at a slower rate, ever since. Bigger Pubs started doing food, effectively poaching customers from established eateries which, in turn, diminished. I'm sure you know all this, you're nobody's fool.

My Ole Man is a Drayman. We were wondering if he'd have to go back into general haulage due to the lockdown. Strangely, his firm is taking on more staff because despite the poverty-stricken cries of Landlords - demand for alcohol supplies is booming.

As for the Homeless - is there any studies to prove this is as a result of Covid? It's not something I've noticed or read about.

Do take into account most businesses run at a profit margin of no more than 10%.

So with this year off, it'll take these businesses 10 years to catch up.

I don't think FiFi LaFeles has ever owned or operated a businesses however.

And you run a business empire? hahahahaha

Please, do supply me with an accredited list of those businesses which have gone to the wall due to Covid? Bearing in mind the UK Govt. has been paying the greater part of employee wages during the total lockdown, I'd say the majority here have survived. I don't know a single person who has lost their job due to Covid related business closure and not seen reports of widespread closures.

Let's get real here. You ain't got a leg to stand on. No provable facts nor figures - just your misbegotten, stubborn opinion that you ain't gonna wear a mask because you're alright, Jack, and if others die then too bad. Smoke and mirrors vague statements about job losses, people dying of 'flu anyway ... yahdey-yah. Anything but admit you're ignoring medical advice because you're too special to follow it.

More people have already died from Coronavirus than typically die from Flu in an average year.

That article also mentions one very important fact - Flu vaccines exist. At the moment there's no fully tried-and-tested Covid vaccine.

Yeah Johnson & Johnson have such a positive past history though, I'm sure many will put their faith into what they have to offer.

Off topic. Or more smoke & mirrors.

Pardon the pun.

Anyone who truly cares about any threat to livelihoods would understand we wouldn't need to go into 'lockdown' if Karen wasn't so stubborn about wearing a mask or visor. If people actually followed the guidance instead of moaning about their 'freedom' being impacted in the short term, and if said rules were actually enforced, we would be in a much better position right now. Same applies if we had a 'test and trace' system which actually worked. Low on bank space? Click here .

In today's news: the government's new improved tracing app doesn't work properly.
Anyone surprised? :P

No, I'm not surprised. :(
I recently read a letter in The Times from someone who lives on their own and has been told to self isolate via an app due to close contact with a Covid positive person. The date given for the most recent contact was for a day when they had stayed home, indoors, all day. .... O_o They are self isolating as requested.

Fair enough. Its something I've noticed here but thats purely anecdotal.

You are dead right about the smoking ban.
And as to the shops thing - at worst, covid merely accelerated the move to online.
