So what are you saying - don't bother to cover nose & mouth at all? It's entirely useless?

If so, why would Govts in so many, many countries be telling their populace to wear a mask (given that they have been advised by a variety of scientists to give this message)?

He is a qualified medical doctor however, with over 35 years of experience. I'm better than you, but that doesn't mean you're not great! :)

Of course I would imagine everyone has seen, several times, vids about high velocity aerosol droplets. Probably the sort of masks the general public are donning are of very little use if someone explodes in your face at close range.

However, one does not often encounter an individual who will cough or sneeze straight at you from fairly close distance. Are you saying the generally worn masks do nothing at all to inhibit the passage of already expelled droplets which are no longer densely packed or under high velocity? The type that linger in the air, sometimes for a considerable while indoors, and which one might pass through?

What makes you say that the wearing of masks was politicised?

Bear in mind 'experts' don't always get it right first time.

Smoking cigarettes and pipes was actually recommended for people with Asthma and other chest conditions - by Doctors and other medical people - because it was believed that the coughing it encouraged was a good way of 'clearing the lungs'.

A better understanding of both chest diseases and smoking laid that particular myth to rest ....

What? How is that at all accurate?

You can breathe in and out of your nose in addition to your mouth so not covering your nose isn't great. If you're going to wear a mask or face-covering, it should be both your mouth and nose, the two locations you can expel your breath...

And as a side note, most people will have a runny nose when enough time is spent outside in cold weather, without having a cold.
